Hawks were the first symbol I learned back in 2004. They are seen as messengers in many cultures and invite you to take a breath and see things from a higher vantage point.

I love the bright bold colors this hawk came through as in my paint. They remind me of Spring and the burst of colors we’re seeing right now. More winged creatures to come!

Water creatures complete (for now). Whales, turtles, squid, dolphins and sharks are full of symbolism. But so is the water itself. Water is one of the 4 elements (fire, water, air, earth) and represents deep emotions and abundance. It asks us to o trust the natural current and flow of life. Continuing to paint creatures! The mysterious Raven symbolizes intelligence, subconsciousness, and mysticism. Some see them as messengers between the living and spiritual realms. Members of the crow family, they’re among the most clever birds.

Years ago, I heard Claire Zammit say we have over 2100 women in our family lines cheering us on. That really struck me, so I painted it! I counted 2100 brushstrokes in my piece “In Your Corner” and it hangs in my bedroom.

Can you imagine over 2100 grandmas cheering you on? When I think of what mine lived through, immigrating from Poland and Czechoslovakia at young ages, working on farms, sending loved ones to war, I’m in awe. What badass, strong women. I know they’re cheering me and my family members on.
