Ten years after his passing, the Stuart Scott Memorial Cancer Research Fund continues to make a lasting impact — and UNC Lineberger is part of that legacy. 💙

Victoria Bae-Jump, MD, PhD, a researcher at UNC Lineberger, was among the first scientists to receive support from the fund. Her early grant helped launch critical work into cancer disparities. That momentum has now grown into a major research program backed by an $11.2 million award aimed at understanding and addressing these disparities.

The Blueberry Patch Project centers around cultivating a blueberry patch—a symbol of growth, renewal, and nurturing potential—on Hatchell’s property in the North Carolina Mountains. Each summer, she opens her patch to the community, inviting individuals, families, and groups to pick fresh blueberries on the honor system, to which all proceeds go towards UNC Lineberger.
