A word from Coach:

Tonight, we ! Though we were fierce rivals in women's basketball, we were also close friends and she is still a huge loss in my life.

This game means a lot to me for several reasons, including the fact that we coached three USA Basketball teams together and WON three gold medals together, including the 1988 Olympics. UNC and NC State are rivals, but Kay and I were very close friends. I was with her just two days before she passed and that will always mean the world to me. I loved her dearly!

In 2013 I was diagnosed with AML (Acute Myeloid Leukemia) the worst kind of leukemia you can have. My survival rate was 9%. Because of UNC Lineberger Comprehensive Cancer Center, a LOT of prayers and my tough coaching mentality, I BEAT CANCER!

I have the Blueberry Patch in the mountains (400 bushes before Helene, now 150 after replanting in the spring) where all the money from the blueberry picking goes to UNC Lineberger Comprehensive Cancer Center. We have put two new workout rooms at the cancer center with the money raised from the Blueberry Patch to help others "FIGHT CANCER".

Tune in tonight on ESPN2...I will be speaking with ESPN commentator before the game, and look in the stands for my husband and biggest supporter, Sammy, wearing his PINK Blueberry Patch t-shirt! Game starts at 6pm.

I got to be with Kay as she fought through her cancer battles and she was always looking to help others. That's what today and the Kay Yow Cancer Fund is all about! So tonight...WE PLAY4KAY!!!!
