myPT Go see myPT first. myPT is your first stop to move better, feel better, and be better. This cycle is repeated over and over again and something has to change.

After years of practice in outpatient orthopedics, Dr. Virginia Lanier recognized that her patients' goals weren't necessarily "covered under insurance." In a healthcare system that does not focus on prevention or sports performance, patients would frequently stop treatment before reaching their terminal goal. Then, they would come back weeks, months, or years later with an injury directly related to the previous one. myPT was founded with the patient in mind. Virginia noticed that patients were cut off from more visits if they didn't progress fast enough, plateaued, or progressed too fast. Orthopedic conditions frequently take time to respond, change or improve, and unfortunately insurance companies don't like to wait. Outside of insurance-directed care, your problem will be treated for as long you need to get the results you want. That's what you get at myPT.

Ever injured yourself and thought "It's okay - I'll just ice it and it will heal on its own"? ๐Ÿ‘€

You're not alone! But that doesn't mean it's the right thing for your body.

No matter the cause of an injury, it is important to get the right treatment as soon as possible.

If you donโ€™t, you risk:
โŒ Making the injured muscle worse
โŒ Creating pain in other areas
โŒ Developing muscle tightness

But more importantly, you are going to miss out on doing the things you love:
โญ Playing with your kids
โญ Going for a weekend bike ride or hike
โญ Morning walks with the dog before work

If youโ€™re battling daily aches and pains that are impacting the things you enjoy in life, schedule an appointment with me to get back to feeling your best!

Are you making your way back to a consistent exercise routine? ๐Ÿ’ช๐Ÿผ

I often speak to patients that have aggravated old injuries or suffer with painful discomfort after they try to exercise for the first time in a while.

This is frustrating and can put a real damper on your motivation. ๐Ÿ˜ž Believe me, I get it!

So, what should you do if you want to get more active BUT you donโ€™t want to deal with severe aches afterwards? Here's what I would recommend:

1๏ธโƒฃ Gradually increase your activity level rather than going hard from the jump with unrealistic expectations

If your only physical activity is a walk once a week, then aim to go a little longer, or do a second walk each week. Donโ€™t try and walk hours at a time several times a week, as this will likely flare up joint or muscle pain.

2๏ธโƒฃ Avoid high impact exercise such as running, or contact sports

Instead, try swimming, cycling, Pilates, yoga or walking. There are plenty of low impact exercises you can do to get your heart pumping and work your muscles without hammering your joints.

3๏ธโƒฃ Seek expert help if pain continues

If you're doing the first two tips, but are still struggling with muscle pain, then you may have a more serious issue that requires expert help. โžก๏ธ If this happens, reach out to me so I can get you back on track!

What if I told you that you CAN move better with less or no medication? ๐Ÿ‘€

Pain is a symptom of dysfunction. Pain is not something to train through, and it is *definitely* not something to live with. ๐Ÿšซ

Pain is your body's way of telling you something and you have to listen to it and respect it.

If you canโ€™t speak the same language as your body, myPT can translate! โžก Schedule an appointment to better understand where your pain is coming from and how to fix it.

One of the best parts about being a PT in North Carolina is that it's a direct access state! ๐Ÿ™Œ๐Ÿผ

That means you can get treatment without a physician referral AND you don't need insurance.

By being "out of network", insurance cannot dictate the care that you receive from us. ๐Ÿ‘ฉ๐Ÿปโ€โš•๏ธ You can be treated like the individual that you are, and not be limited by how they *think* you should be progressing.

You can always choose to file for reimbursement with your insurance provider on your own - if you choose to do that, just ask your therapist for instructions.

Can y'all believe it's the last day of June already? ๐Ÿ˜ฒ

Summer is in full swing, and to make sure you're staying healthy and happy while working out in this season, I have a few reminders for you...

๐Ÿ’ฆ Hydrate, hydrate, hydrate! You need water to keep your body running smoothly, especially when it's hot out.

โ˜€๏ธ Get moving early! The heat (and humidity!) can be intense, so if you're going to workout outside, make sure to do it early in the day.

๐Ÿง  Know your limits! It's okay to listen to your body and do less or slow down when needed to make sure you stay safe, healthy, and injury-free.

๐Ÿคธโ€โ™€๏ธ Make it fun! The best part about summer is getting outside with friends and family for beach days, playing games, and going on walks - so use that as your "activity" for the day instead of hitting the gym.

At myPT, surgery is not considered a success until you have returned to doing what you love. ๐Ÿฅฐ

During our sessions, we guide you through each phase of rehab post-operatively to ensure that you meet prescribed milestones safely and efficiently.

You will be educated on your surgery and expectations for each step of rehab, then your therapist will guide you through the intricacies of post-op care as we let your body tell us when it is ready for the next step.

Your body knows what's right for it, and we listen to that! ๐Ÿ‘‚๐Ÿผ

myPT has successfully helped patients through post-operative rehab for shoulder, hip, knee, foot/ankle, elbow and wrist surgeries among professional athletes, moms, weekend warriors, collegiate athletes and even orthopedic surgeons.

Do you wake up with back pain and more tired than when you went to bed? ๐Ÿ˜ด This is a common issue for patients, and can be caused by a couple things...

You move less at night, which leads to stiff joints & tight muscles; you could be tossing & turning because of not winding down enough before bed; and all of this is made even worse if you sleep in a bad position.

A few tips to help you improve your sleep and reduce back pain:

๐Ÿง˜๐Ÿปโ€โ™€๏ธ Create a wind-down routine 30-60 min. before bed that includes relaxing things like taking a bath, reading, drinking tea, or light stretching.

๐Ÿšซ Avoid screens, alcohol, caffeine, and anything stimulating!

๐Ÿ›Œ Improve your sleeping position - if you can adjust how you sleep, it can help with both falling AND staying asleep.

Laying on your front is the worst option for your spine, so try to avoid it as best you can!

Laying on your back is the best option for spine health, but you can also put a pillow between your knees when sleeping on your side to make that position more comfortable as well.

Which of these tips will you be adding to your daily routine? ๐Ÿ‘‡๐Ÿผ
