In October, Eastern AHEC and the NC Health Talent Alliance brought together area healthcare leaders, educators, and community partners from Currituck to Carteret and Onslow to Dare counties for the region's first-ever Healthcare Workforce Employer Collaboratives. Their purpose? To discuss ways to tackle an urgent issue -- building and sustaining a strong healthcare workforce in Eastern NC.
“Our healthcare employers are facing ongoing challenges in recruiting and retaining skilled professionals, particularly in rural and coastal communities,” said Kathy Russell, Regional Healthcare Workforce Manager at Eastern AHEC. The Collaboratives allowed participants to co-create strategies to address challenges such as noncompetitive salaries, limited remote work opportunities, and fewer pathways for career advancement, and discuss innovative ways to grow healthcare talent locally.
Understanding the regional workforce needs and developing targeted programs to address identified needs is the focus of the NC Health Talent Alliance (NC HTA) – a strategic partnership between the NC Center on the Workforce for Health, NC Chamber Foundation, and NC AHEC regions aimed at addressing pervasive healthcare worker shortages in North Carolina.
“By bringing employers, educators, and stakeholders to the same table, we are ensuring that solutions are not only innovative and sustainable, but also responsive to the real needs of our local communities -- together.” said Bryan Spence, Regional Healthcare Workforce Manager at Eastern AHEC.
This is just the beginning of good and meaningful conversations about creating job-ready, credentialed workforces that reflect the communities they serve. To learn more and get involved, visit workforceforhealth.org/hta.
