We’re excited to welcome Mary Huth to the Dynamic Beginnings team! 🎉

Mary is a Speech-Language Pathologist dedicated to helping children build confidence and strengthen their communication skills through compassionate, individualized therapy. We’re thrilled to have her join our growing team as we continue supporting families across our community.

Mary will be serving children and families in the Downtown, Northeast Columbia, Cayce, and West Columbia areas, providing speech and language services that help children reach their fullest potential.

During a work lunch, we found her fortune to be spot on. Please join us in giving Mary a warm welcome to Dynamic Beginnings Therapy!

You may have noticed some of these communication boards placed at some of our playgrounds, most recently at Isle Of Palms County Park with funding from the Charleston County Parks Foundation.

These boards are a composition of images and support inclusive play on our playgrounds allowing children with limited verbal communication to connect with other kids or their caregivers in real time.

They also foster awareness that children with disabilities can actively participate in play when given the right tools, and promote empathy and acceptance by teaching children about different communication needs and abilities. It’s truly a learning tool for all kids as children can improve their reading skills, build picture-object associations, and learn new words with guidance from adults.

📢 UPDATE 📢

on Medically Complex Children’s Wavier from the South Carolina Department of Health and Human Services.

Self-directed children's attendant care is a home-based service for MCC waiver participants ages one to age 21. It allows the option for eligible parents, relatives or guardians to be paid hourly to deliver the extraordinary care their child needs for day-to-day activities. This option is self-directed and would be used instead of an in-home care agency and personal care aide (PCA).

Interested families who have a child who is covered by the MCC waiver can request the service now by contacting their waiver nurse case manager.

What are environmental sounds? Environmental sounds are common sounds created by common objects such as animal sounds (woof woof), vehicle sounds (beep beep), and explanations (woah, uh-oh). These sounds are often fun for little kids to imitate and motivating to keep them engaged with a language activity. Ask your therapist for more ideas on different environmental sounds to model and ways to encourage imitation!
