Sometimes God sends angels into our lives in the most unexpected ways.
Today we’re sharing a devotion from Eastminster Presbyterian Church about the compassionate care at the Heritage at Lowman. 💛
SURRENDERING TO OUR SOVEREIGN GOD
Angels Among Us
Scripture: “Behold, I send an angel before you to guard you on the way and to bring you to the place that I have prepared.” - Exodus 23:20
Recently I was talking with Rev. Ed Black, a pastor at my mother’s church, Forest Lake Presbyterian. He has been an angel in keeping up with and visiting my mother since her decline. I was telling him about another “angel” in my mother’s life, and he suggested that I share this story through a devotional.
Now in Hospice care, my mother is bedridden and communicates very little. Seeing her like that just breaks my heart, knowing what a strong woman she once was as a thriving business owner and single mother of two children after her divorce. Just a little over two years ago, she was living independently; then a fall that broke her hip and later a bad case of Covid led to her moving to a full-care home. That would be hard for anyone, but for her it was unacceptable.
The very first day she was transferred from the hospital to the Lowman Home, she was assigned to an angel, Miss Wyman, as her CNA (Certified Nursing Assistant). On the very first visit, I can remember how much genuine care she gave to my mother. Oh, it was still a difficult time for her. I would go to visit and find pictures ripped off the wall and hear my mom’s wild dementia stories, but Miss Wyman always had a way of calming her down. Over the years, she has had other very caring CNA’s and Miss Wyman moved on to other patients in need. But now, Miss Wyman has been reassigned to my mother’s care.
I remember the day I came to visit her right after her recent hospitalization stay, and I immediately knew who had taken care of her without even asking. Her hair was clean and braided, her face was shiny with cream, and she was wearing her new sweater I got for Christmas and was wrapped up in her doggie blanket. She looked so comfortable. I am at peace knowing that she is in good hands when I can’t be there. Miss Wyman has truly been a Godsend to both me and my mother. I certainly know that, but this past December at a special luncheon, Miss Wyman was recognized as the top CNA in the state!
God sent a truly special angel to watch over my mom in her most difficult times of need. I count my blessings each day and thank God for all he does to keep watch over us and send his angels to help along the way.
Look around you today and count your blessings. Be sure to look for God’s angels in your life and thank them.
Prayer: We thank you, Lord, for all our many blessings. Thank you for the angels you send to us to make our lives easier each day. Bless them and continue to bless us with your mercy and grace. Amen.
