Here are some of the lessons that I learned from reading Mating in Captivity, and it mirrors what I see every day in my clinic as an OBGYN and intimacy coach.

Here’s the truth most couples never hear:
👉🏻 Emotional closeness can quietly suffocate desire — love and safety alone don’t create wanting.
👉🏻 Desire needs mystery, space, and separateness — room to feel like an individual, not just a role.
👉🏻 S*xlessness is rarely about attraction — it’s more often about losing your sense of self under stress, parenting, hormones, and responsibility.

If your marriage feels loving but s*x feels awkward, rare, painful, or avoided… join me live on February 3rd at 8PM EST for my upcoming webinar. We’ll talk honestly about desire, hormones, pain, emotional safety, and how to rebuild intimacy when this is your reality right now.

Stay tuned as there are more lessons I'll be dropping in my next reels.

Married… but feeling more like roommates? I love the Mating in Captivity book by because it puts words to what so many couples quietly struggle with - can desire exist in a long term relationship..

In my clinic as an OBGYN and intimacy coach, I see couples who deeply love each other, but desire has faded. S*x feels awkward, painful, rare, or emotionally distant. No spark. No curiosity. A lot of pressure… and a lot of silence.

This book is such a powerful read because it explains why intimacy can disappear in long-term relationships.. and why closeness alone doesn’t automatically create desire. It challenges the myth that passion dies because something is “wrong” with you or your marriage.

If any of this feels familiar, grab a coffee and join me live on February 3rd at 8PM EST for my upcoming webinar. We’ll talk honestly about desire, hormones, pain, emotional safety, and how to rebuild intimacy without shame or blame.

Marriage stability statistics show real risks..

👉🏻 In the United States, about 41 % of first marriages end in divorce, and that rate rises with subsequent marriages. (Wilkinson and Finkbeiner)
👉🏻 While divorce isn’t driven by one single issue, lack of emotional and physical intimacy consistently ranks among the top reported contributors to couples separating. (divorce.com)

Here’s the truth I share with my patients:

When s*x becomes rare, it often reflects deeper unspoken dynamics—hormonal shifts, stress, unresolved conflict, fear of rejection, physical discomfort, or misalignment of desire..

That’s why s*xual health in marriage matters.

And that’s exactly what I’m unpacking in my upcoming webinar “Resuscitating a S*xless Marriage.” We’re going beyond feels and opinions — we’re talking body, brain, hormones, communication science, and real strategies couples can use before they get stuck in patterns that erode connection.

Sometimes the work that matters most is also the most uncomfortable to explain..especially to the people who raised us.

This wasn’t just a funny moment of my mom discovering what my podcast was about, but rather a reminder of why I do this work. Conversations about s*x, menopause, desire, and women’s bodies matter—across generations and cultures—even when they start with raised eyebrows and awkward pauses.

As a board-certified OBGYN, I’ve learned that silence has never protected women. Information has. If I can begin to have these conversations with my mom then maybe it’s time we stop whispering about women’s health and start normalizing it.

If you’re here for honest, medically grounded conversations about midlife, hormones, and intimacy—you’re in the right place.

Sometimes change starts with one brave conversation… and a mom pressing play in the kitchen. 🫶

Most couples don’t choose a s*xless marriage. It usually happens when life + bodies + stress pile up..

1. Chronic tiredness + sleep debt
In one large study, tiredness was the #1 reason people said they weren’t having more s*x — 43% of women and 36% of men named it. (National Library of Medicine)

2. Stress + nervous system overload
When stress stays high, your body prioritizes survival — not desire. Research in couples links higher stress with lower s*xual well-being. (International Journal of Clinical and Health Psychology)

3. Desire mismatch
This one is so common. Researchers estimate about 25–30% of couples experience a problematic desire discrepancy — where one partner wants s*x much more than the other. (Taylor and Francis Online)

4. Pain + hormonal changes (especially midlife)
For many women, s*x stops because it starts to hurt. Genitourinary Syndrome of Menopause (GSM) is common — estimates suggest it affects around 50% of postmenopausal women. (Frontiers)

5. Mental health + medication side effects
Depression itself can affect desire — about 35–50% of people with untreated major depression experience s*xual dysfunction. And antidepressants can add to it: studies report s*xual dysfunction rates up to 70–80% across various antidepressants, especially SSRIs/SNRIs. (Harvard Medical School)

If intimacy has quietly faded and you’re wondering what changed, clarity is the first step.

Pain during in*******se doesn’t just affect the body..it quietly strains the relationship.

One partner feels rejected.
The other feels broken or guilty.
No one knows how to talk about it without hurting each other.

And over time, intimacy fades, not because love is gone,
but because pain creates distance.

I was recently interviewed by Flow Space about the vaginal microbiome, an essential but often overlooked part of women’s health.

The vaginal microbiome is a dynamic ecosystem, largely made up of lactobacillus species that maintain an acidic vaginal pH and protect against infection.

In midlife, declining estrogen can reduce lactobacilli, raise vaginal pH, and disrupt this protective balance.. contributing to issues like bacterial vaginosis, recurrent UTIs, and other vaginal infections.

Vaginal estrogen can help support the normal vaginal microbiome that can be disrupted in perimenopause and menopause due to decreased estrogen levels.

If you’d like to learn more about how the vaginal microbiome works, and what changes in midlife—visit the link to read the full article.

Here’s the truth we don’t say often enough:

No one is coming to hand you the life you want.

You build it — with people, courage, and ownership.

Years ago, I couldn’t have imagined the life I live now — or the conversations I’d be leading publicly. Not because it wasn’t possible, but because I hadn’t grown into that version of myself yet.

That’s what growth does.

It reveals paths only after you’re brave enough to start walking.
