This Valentine's Day, the WCGS will be celebrating with a presentation by our very own Michelle Dowd Torosian who will present "A Genealogist's Guide to Love and Marriage." Interested in attending but not a member yet? Send us a dm with your email address and we'll send you an invitation.

Marriage records can be a particularly useful source for your genealogical research. Join us on Valentine’s Day to take a deep dive into researching marriage records: why you want them, how to find them, how to use them effectively, and how the laws that governed them will impact your research. This presentation will focus on New York records and examples but will be helpful with marriage records in general.

Michelle Dowd Torosian, WCGS president, is a professional genealogist and founder of Torosian Genealogy, LLC. Her extensive research experience and sharp analytical skills enable her to work with clients undertaking historical research, solving the mysteries lurking in the branches of their family trees, identifying unknown ancestors, and recovering forgotten stories. A former CPA with Deloitte, Michelle is a certificate holder from Boston University’s Genealogical Research program and the ProGen Study Group.

Our chapter namesake is about to be minted on a $1 coin! We are proud to honor Polly Cooper's legacy of service. From the U.S. Mint: The obverse (heads) side is a portrait of Sacagawea carrying her infant son Jean-Baptiste with the reverse (tails) design portraying Polly Cooper holding a basket as she shares the Oneidas’ gift of corn with General Washington, who holds his hat in an expression of gratitude and respect. The design represents the generosity, courage, and sacrifice of the Oneida during the American Revolutionary War.

Sharing this post from our Crossnore Chapter.... there's no better time to join the DAR now as we celebrate our countries to 250th anniversary!!

We are celebrating something truly meaningful - recognizing First-Generation DAR members with a special pin honoring women who are the first in their family to join!

You don’t have to come from a long line of DAR members to belong here. We welcome women who value service, history, education, and patriotism - women who want to make a difference locally and nationally while honoring the legacy of those who helped shape our country.

If you’ve ever wondered whether DAR might be for you, now is a wonderful time to explore. You may discover connection, purpose, friendship, and a meaningful way to leave your own mark on history.

Interested in learning more? Reach out, ask questions, and consider taking the first step. Your story can be the start of a new DAR legacy.
