With the objective to promote genealogical research and the preservation of genealogical records

Our meetings are free, open to the public and include invited speakers, interesting programs on family history, local interests and research aids.

01/15/2026

Registration is now open for our February program: "Using AI and Other Genealogy Innovations" - led by Alan Jones.

Sponsored by the Geauga County Genealogical Society. There will be a short business meeting at 7:00pm with the presentation to follow.

This program is a part of the monthly Ohio 250th Commission themes celebrating our nation's 250th anniversary: Ohio Works Innovation & Industry.

Don’t let technology scare you away from family research. The latest innovations actually make family research easier and more fun, if Alan Jones is your guide! Bring your questions.

Alan Jones, retired computer software engineer, began genealogy research with a hand-cranked microfilm reader. Now, he tests new FamilySearch features and genealogy software programs, indexes records and volunteers at the Kirtland Family Search Center.

Seating is limited to 50. Be sure to register early so you don't miss out!

A huge THANK YOU to our members, Cathy and Rex, for a very interesting program on the origins of their ancestors, some going back to England in the 1500's (we think, it's still a research in progress to confirm) and to Lynn for sharing her research project on discovering a treasure of family stories that made their way from a Geauga Co. attic to the Allyn room at the library.

There are still seats available for our Oct 14 program.

Genealogical Society Meeting - “Family Stories from Geauga Attics and Archives: How We Got Here.”

Social time starts at 6:30 pm. A short business meeting begins at 7:00 pm, followed by the speaker.

The president and secretary of Geauga County Genealogical Society will share stories from their family trees that reflect the origins of many present day Geaugans. Their ancestors’ journeys began in Europe, included stops in New England, Cuyahoga and Lake counties and finally ended in Geauga County. Then, Lynn Vandevort, GCPL local historian, will share one of her most memorable projects – discovering a treasure of family stories in the Allyn Room that came from a Geauga County attic.
