Here Comes the Sun... and your South Carolina advocates at the annual Mid Year Forum 👁️🇺🇸☀️

We have Maya Dodhia, PGY-2, representing MUSC Storm Eye Institute, and Hunter Harrison, PGY-4, representing Univeristy of South Carolina's ophthalmology residency. Dr. Heitman and Dr. Baker also came to advocate for SC!

We met with legislative staff on Capitol Hill to discuss issues affecting the practice of ophthalmology, including CMS cuts, scope of practice, vision research funding, and much more! 11/10 experience and would do it all over again.

HAPPY MATCH DAY!!! 🎉 Here comes the next class of ophthalmology residents at Storm Eye Institute!! We’re so incredibly pumped to have such an incredible group of people join our mighty SEI family. It’s even more special as 2026 marks the 50th year anniversary of Storm Eye Institute. We know that with each class of incoming residents we will continue to foster our incredible culture, learn and expand the field of ophthalmology, and most importantly provide the best care for our patients in the Lowcountry.

So excited to welcome you all in the summer! 🥳

This past weekend some of our senior residents attended the Alcon cataract course in Fort Worth, TX. It was an amazing jam-packed two days of lectures, panels, video symposiums, wet lab skills, demonstrations and connecting with other residents from around the country!

A big shoutout to for hosting and for holding down the fort for the seniors!

It’s the end of an era! We’re all still recovering from the graduation festivities of last week. A huge congratulations to our senior class for finishing their ophthalmology residency. We also celebrated the graduation of our research and clinical fellows - Hugo, Munjal (cornea), Nallely and Abdel (peds).

Best of luck to Bryce for pursuing a peds fellowship in Chicago, Mercy for moving across the country to Sacramento for comp, and Sarah going to up to Erie, PA for comp! We’re so lucky that Ethan gets to stay on as faculty for trauma chief.

To our fellows, thank you for teaching us and enriching our lives this year! Hugo will be going back to Brazil and Munjal is heading back home to Orlando. We are so lucky to have Nallely and Abdel stay on one more year as our peds fellow and glaucoma fellow!
