Tool: Movement (Not Punishment)

In early recovery, your body is holding a lot.
Stress. Emotions. Old survival patterns..

Movement helps release what talking can’t always reach..

This isn’t about weight..
Or performance..
Or “earning” rest..

It’s about regulation..

Even gentle movement can:
• Lower anxiety
• Improve sleep
• Reduce cravings
• Help your body feel safe again

Recovery movement can look like:
A short walk..
Stretching on the floor..
Light strength work..
Yoga..
Dancing in your kitchen..

You don’t need motivation..
You don’t need a full workout..
You just need to move a little

Your body isn’t the enemy..
It’s part of your healing..

If today all you can do is five minutes, that counts..
That’s recovery too..

Trying harder isn’t always the answer.
Sometimes it’s what keeps us tense, anxious, and stuck…

Doing my part this weekend looks like this:
Manifest my power…
Accept what is…
Relax my body..
Trust the process..

I don’t have to control everything to heal..
I can breathe..
I can let go..
I can trust that what’s meant for me will meet me in time..

Rest is part of the work..

It’s often about being dysregulated..

Before you spiral, check HALT..

Am I:
Hungry
Angry
Lonely
Tired

This isn’t a test..
It’s information..

If you’re hungry, eat..
If you’re angry, move or write it out..
If you’re lonely, reach out..
If you’re tired, rest..

You don’t fix emotions with willpower.
You support them with care..

Sobriety isn’t just about staying sober..
It’s about learning how to listen to your body before it starts yelling..

If today feels off, you’re not failing..
You might just need one thing, not a whole life overhaul..

Early recovery often comes with a loud mind.
Racing thoughts. Old fears. A lot of “what ifs.”

That doesn’t mean you’re doing this wrong.
It means your nervous system is learning something new..

You don’t have to fight your thoughts to find peace..
Sometimes, the work is just pausing..

When things start to spiral, try this gentle reset:

P — Pause. Take a few slow breaths…
A — Ask. Is this helping me right now?
U — Understand. You don’t have to follow every thought…
S — Say. I can let this pass…
E — Experience. Let the feeling be there without fixing it…

You don’t need to control your mind today..
Staying sober is enough..

You are enough..
