A win for patients with complex heart rhythm disorders! MUSC Health recently completed the first two U.S. cases in a clinical trial evaluating Saline Enhanced Radiofrequency (SERF) Needle Ablation for patients with refractory Ventricular Tachycardia.

The Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC) study is led by Cardiac Electrophysiologist Jeffrey Winterfield and is supported by the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute through an SBIR grant.

This early work could help advance new treatment options for patients with complex heart rhythm disorders.

Thank you to all of our clinicians and researchers dedicated to changing what's possible in cardiac care!

Atrial fibrillation, or A fib, is the most common type of irregular heartbeat and can increase the risk of stroke or heart failure.

At MUSC Health in Columbia, Dr. Francis Ugowe is part of the heart team using the Affera system, a next-generation technology that makes treating A fib safer and more flexible.

The platform allows doctors to switch between two treatment methods during one procedure, giving them the ability to focus on the heart tissue that needs care while protecting surrounding areas.
