❄️ The First Snow and a Fresh Start ❄️

The first snow has a way of making everything feel new again. It covers up the mess, quiets the noise, and reminds us that no matter how cold life gets, we always get another chance to begin again. Recovery works the same way. You do not have to have it all figured out. You just have to take the next step, one day at a time, and let the past stay where it belongs.

At Mountain State Recovery Center, we believe every season brings new chances to grow, heal, and rebuild. Whether you are just starting your journey or staying strong through the storm, remember that even the coldest days can lead to brighter ones ahead.

Charleston is open 8 to 4 and Huntington is open 9 to 4 today. Come see us if you need a little warmth, encouragement, or a reminder that no storm lasts forever.

🔥 From Dope Dealer to Hope Dealer 🔥

Meet Courtney Ferrell, PRSS SUD/MH at Mountain State Recovery Center. There was a time when Courtney was a full-blown menace to the streets of Charleston. Her life was ruled by m**h addiction, chaos, and pain. Behind the destruction were years of trauma, toxic relationships, and a battle with her own mental health. She sold drugs to feed her habit, and when it all came crashing down, she landed in federal prison.

While out on pretrial, Courtney entered the MOTHER and Mending Fences programs and later completed RDAP in federal prison. What looked like punishment became her turning point. She says God put her exactly where she needed to be. What the world saw as punishment became her purpose. It was behind those walls that she learned to face her trauma, find her worth, build self-discipline, and start becoming the person she was meant to be.

Today, Courtney has been sober for over 6 years and has spent more than 3 years working at Mountain State Recovery Center. She’s dual-certified in Substance Use Disorder and Mental Health, using her own story to guide others out of the darkness she once lived in. Her favorite part of the job is watching people who once felt hopeless rise up and take their lives back. “I’ve had clients go from broken to thriving,” she says. “Seeing that transformation will never get old.”

Courtney went from being a menace to society to a contributing member of it. From selling dope on the streets to spreading hope in the same city she once tore down. What started as punishment became purpose, and what looked like the end became the beginning of everything.

🔥 The Only Thing You Have To Change In Recovery Is Everything 🔥

Yeah, we said it. Everything. The people, the habits, the late-night decisions, the mindset, the routines, and the way you show up for yourself. Recovery isn’t about flipping one switch. It’s about rebuilding the whole circuit. And the best part? You are capable of doing it. Every single time you choose peace over chaos, honesty over hiding, and growth over comfort, you’re proving you can handle the hard stuff.

At Mountain State Recovery Center, we see that kind of courage every day. People walk in ready to change one thing and walk out realizing they’re changing their whole life. It’s not easy, but it is worth it. Because everything you let go of makes room for som**hing better.

Charleston is open 8 to 7 and Huntington is open 9 to 4 today. Stop in if you’re ready to change everything that once held you back.

🎃 You’ve Survived Scarier Things Than Halloween 🎃

Let’s be honest, recovery has way more plot twists than a horror movie. You’ve faced your demons, stared down your fears, and still showed up when life got dark. So if you can survive yourself on your worst day, a few costumes and candy bars don’t stand a chance.

At Mountain State Recovery Center, we celebrate real courage, the kind that doesn’t wear a mask. The kind that shows up every day and keeps fighting for peace, healing, and purpose. That’s the kind of bravery we see in Charleston and Huntington every single day.

Charleston is open 8 to 4 and Huntington is open 9 to 4 today. Stop by if you need a place where the only ghosts we talk about are the ones from your past that you’ve already outgrown.

🧠 Recovery is not about getting your life back. It is about building one you do not need to escape from. 🧠

Everyone talks about getting back to normal, but let’s be honest, normal was not working. Recovery is not about going backward. It is about moving forward and creating som**hing new. It is about finding peace in quiet moments, laughing without needing a reason, and realizing you do not owe your past another second of your future.

At Mountain State Recovery Center, we see that transformation happen every day. In Charleston and Huntington, people walk in scared and walk out believing in themselves again. That is not luck or chance. That is hard work, courage, and a choice to live differently.

Charleston is open 8 to 7 and Huntington is open 9 to 4 today. Stop in if you are ready to stop surviving and start living.

🌟 Counselor Spotlight: Larry “Makie” McCommack II 🌟

Meet Larry “Makie” McCommack II, living proof that recovery does not discriminate. Makie grew up in a middle-class home, never wanted for anything, and was an athletic standout who went on to play college football at WV Tech. On paper, he had everything going for him: talent, drive, and a bright future. But addiction does not care where you come from or how much potential you have. It reaches everyone differently, and Makie’s story shows that no one is immune.

Makie’s first stretch of sobriety began in 2009, and he stayed clean for seven years. During that time, he accomplished so much, becoming a schoolteacher and football coach at his alma mater, Valley Fayette High School. Life looked great from the outside, but recovery requires vigilance, humility, and daily connection. Over time, Makie became complacent in his recovery. That complacency grew into disconnection from his higher power, which ultimately led to relapse, rehab, and prison.

Most people would call that a fall from grace. Makie calls it a fall into grace. Because it was in that fall that he discovered his true purpose. He says God put him exactly where he needed to be, and that path led him to Mountain State Recovery Center, where he now uses his story and his strength to help others find the same freedom he fought so hard for.

These days, Makie stays healthy by working out and competing in bench press competitions, proving that recovery is about building strength inside and out. On December 9th, he will celebrate five years sober, and his story stands as a reminder that redemption is real, grace is powerful, and it is never too late to rebuild your life.

We are proud to have Makie as part of the Mountain State Recovery Center family, a man of faith, heart, and humor who shows every day that recovery is not about how far you fall but how many times you get back up.

🌟 The Promises Do Come True 🌟

When you first start this journey, it can feel impossible to believe that things will ever get better. You hear people talk about peace, purpose, and freedom, and it sounds like a fairy tale. But the truth is, the promises in recovery are real. They do not show up all at once, but little by little. You start to smile again. You start to sleep again. You start to believe again. One day you realize that the chaos is quieter, the fear is smaller, and hope has taken its place.

At Mountain State Recovery Center, we see it every day in Charleston and Huntington. People walk in broken and walk out with light in their eyes. They rebuild trust, reconnect with family, and find joy in the simple moments that once felt impossible. The promises are not about perfection, they are about progress. They are about learning to love the life you once thought you could never have.

Charleston is open 8 to 7 and Huntington is open 9 to 4 today. If you are still waiting for the promises to come true, keep going. They are already on their way to you.

🔥 You Are Not Who You Used To Be 🔥

Read that again. You are not that person anymore. The one who was lost, broken, scared, or stuck. You have been through things that could have destroyed you, but here you are, standing taller, fighting harder, and becoming someone your old self would not even recognize. That is not luck. That is work. That is growth. That is recovery.

At Mountain State Recovery Center, we see that strength every day. In Charleston and Huntington, people walk through our doors carrying years of pain, and little by little, they trade it for purpose. We have watched lives rebuilt, families restored, and hope come back where it once disappeared. This is what recovery looks like, raw, real, and powerful.

Charleston is open 8 to 4 and Huntington is open 9 to 4 today. If you need a reminder of how strong you really are, come see us. We will remind you that your story is not over, it is just getting good.
