We’re counting down the days until we cut the ribbon for our HCA Healthcare Long Point ER. It’s scheduled to open this June.

Members of The Town of Mount Pleasant, South Carolina Council and the Mount Pleasant Chamber of Commerce joined executives, physicians and nurses from HCA Healthcare Trident Hospital for a special floor signing event.

The freestanding ER is located next to the Chick-fil-A and across the street from Belle Hall Shopping Center on Long Point Road in Mt. Pleasant.

After he and other guests signed their names on the floor, Councilman Daniel Brownstein said, ““I think having this facility on Long Point Road really serves a need for the town. There are not a lot of medical facilities in this area. So, it’s right around the corner from where people live. We all know in the case of a heart attack, stroke, or serious injury minutes and seconds count. So, the quicker somebody can get from their home into an emergency room with qualified physicians and nurses the better the outcome’s going to be for that person.

Dr. Scott Hayes, an emergency medicine physician with HCA Healthcare Trident Hospital added, “Whether it’s a heart attack, stroke, severe injury, or sudden illness, having a fully equipped emergency room nearby can make all the difference.” Long Point ER, and all of HCA Healthcare’s hospital-based ERs and freestanding ERs, are led by physicians board certified in emergency medicine.

Dr. Neal Shelley, also board-certified in emergency medicine, emphasized the urgency of diagnosing heart attacks and strokes. “With a heart attack, restoring blood flow quickly can prevent permanent heart muscle damage. With a stroke, rapid diagnosis and treatment can dramatically reduce the risk of lifelong disability. In both cases, minutes truly matter.”

At the event, Council member Mike Tinkey said, “When people are looking for places where they can live, work and play they are looking for great infrastructure, great schools and great healthcare. And, having a place that’s right around the corner from them means all of the difference into their safety and their livelihood.”

HCA Healthcare in Charleston is a unified network of hospitals and services, including Trident Hospital, Summerville Hospital and Live Oak Mental Health and Wellness. $1M+ - Thanks to the many who gave to support the mission of the American Heart Association - South Carolina at this year’s Lowcountry Heart Walk. HCA Healthcare Trident Hospital CEO Jeff Wilson and Associate Chief Nursing Officer Eric Harbison led our team of walkers. And, it was a bonus to have Mark Severance serve as our special guest. Two days ago he had a heart attack. One day ago he was discharged from our hospital after having an artery near his heart cleared that was 99% blocked. And, today he banged the drum celebrating his survivorship.

Our Story

The heart of Trident Health is found in our more than 3,000 employees. Pictured are members of our Trident Breast Care Center team who daily care for, comfort and encourage women in South Carolina’s Lowcountry. We are motivated to serve. Driven to compassionately provide the highest quality of care. And reminded daily of our mission - Above all else, we are committed to the care and improvement of human life.

More than half of South Carolina’s Lowcountry residents live in Trident Health’s primary market. To our more than 700,000 friends and neighbors in Berkeley, Charleston and Dorchester Counties “thank you” for allowing us to care for you.

This year we celebrate 45 years of providing acute healthcare services to families in South Carolina’s Lowcountry. Services are provided through our two acute care hospitals, Trident Medical Center and Summerville Medical Center; two freestanding emergency departments, Moncks Corner Medical Center and Centre Pointe Emergency; and two urgent care centers, CareNow Urgent Care - Goose Creek and CareNow Urgent Care - North Charleston. In July 2020 we will open our third freestanding emergency department - Brighton Park ER, which is located near the entrance to Nexton.

Both Trident and Summerville Medical Centers have received top ranking as Joint Commission Top Hospitals for Quality Performance and are Joint Commission Certified for Advanced Heart Failure and Advanced Primary Stroke Centers. Trident Medical Center is also a Trauma Center. Our trauma specialists cared for more than 2,000 trauma patients in 2019.
