Specimen collectors collect specimens, such as urine or saliva samples, in medical laboratories. They perform basic data entry tasks, get samples ready for additional laboratory testing and processing, and transport the samples to different facilities.
JOB DUTIES AND REQUIREMENTS
• Facilitate the collection, processing, handling, and shipping of urine and oral fluid specimens.
• Follow policies and procedures to correctly identify the patient.
• Properly label specimens and complete the requisition form via paper or online portal.
• Follow policies and procedures to properly package and ship specimens.
• Demonstrate customer service & compassion when interacting with patients, physicians, and clinic staff.
• Communicate with, understand, and react effectively to a diverse patient population base.
• Follow universal precautions and all OSHA standards when handling specimens.
• Strictly adhere to HIPAA guidelines
• Inform Supervisor of daily tasks, unusual problems, or deviations from established procedures.
• Adhere to all Standard Operating Procedures of the lab while working at the physician’s office.
• Pick-up, package, and ship specimens when needed.
JOB QUALIFICATIONS
• High-school or equivalent required
• Clean driving record and valid driver license required
• Reliable mode of transportation required
• Proficient in data entry required
• Excellent customer service skills required
• Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite required
• Must be able to follow written and verbal instructions
• Urine Drug Screening (UDS) collection experience highly preferred
WORK ENVIRONMENT
• While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works in a clinic/medical office/lab setting.
