OD, FOVDR, COVT… what do these letters even mean? 🤔

If you’ve been researching vision therapy, you’ve probably seen a lot of titles, and it can feel overwhelming!

Here’s a simple breakdown 👇

👓 OD (Doctor of Optometry)
An eye doctor who checks eyesight and eye health. Some ODs also provide vision therapy - but not all are residency trained or Board Certified in it.

🧠 FOVDR (Fellow of Optometric Vision Development and Rehabilitation)
This means the optometrist has completed advanced post-doctoral training in vision development and vision therapy. They specialize in visual function. They might be referred to as Developmental Optometrists, Neuro-Optometrists, or Functional Optometrists.

🎓 COVT (Certified Optometric Vision Therapist)
A highly trained therapist who works one-on-one with patients during vision therapy sessions under the doctor’s supervision.

✨ Think of it as a team approach: the doctor diagnoses and designs the plan, and the therapist guides you or your child through the therapy.

If you or your child struggle with reading, attention, or visual comfort, even after “passing” an eye exam, these credentials matter.
