Black History Month began with a vision.

In 1915, historian Carter G. Woodson was inspired by a celebration of the 50th anniversary of emancipation in Chicago. Recognizing the importance of preserving and promoting Black history, he helped found what is now the Association for the Study of African American Life and History—laying the foundation for what would become Black History Month.

What started as a movement to honor Black life and achievement continues to educate, uplift, and inspire generations today. ❤️💛💚

✨ We need YOU! ✨

The Hour House was awarded a grant through the Southeastern Illinois Community Foundation to share the stories of those in recovery from substance use disorder.

This project is about changing the conversation—reducing stigma, amplifying voices that are too often unheard, and ensuring people in recovery have full autonomy over how their story is told. 💛

Participants will have the opportunity to share their story through creative methods of their choosing, in a way that feels comfortable and true to them.

If you are:
✔️ 18 or older
✔️ In recovery from substance use disorder
✔️ Affiliated with Coles County

💙 Access saves lives—and our communities make it possible.

These numbers represent the Drug Overdose Prevention Program (DOPP) sites we’ve helped establish across each county in our service area, expanding access to NARCAN and other harm reduction supplies where they are needed most.

We are beyond thankful for the community organizations, businesses, and individuals who partner with us to reduce harm and save lives. Together, we’re making NARCAN, fentanyl test strips, xylazine test strips, and other harm reduction tools and resources more accessible across our communities—one site at a time. These totals reflect active sites as of the end of 2025.
