You may have noticed that we have adjusted the names and class descriptions of several of our GX classes. Most of the affected classes are the same classes you know and love! The name adjustments are a part of our mission to encourage more member participation and to increase inclusivity.

The April Open House is just 1 week away!

Join us on April 8 for $5 guest passes and $10 enrollment fees on 3+ month memberships. We will also have a local vendor fair running from 9 a.m. - 12 p.m. in our lobby! These deals will be available ALL DAY on the 8th.

Our special offer of the month is in honor of National Stress Awareness Month. Write how you personally de-stress on the Community Board on the day of the Open House and get entered into a drawing for a FREE guest pass valid for 1-year. You must tell the Membership Desk when you write your answer so that we can take down your name for the drawing!

We have been receiving really positive feedback since adding Mat Fusion to the GX schedule, so we want to make sure it stays there for the long haul and that means training more instructors!

Our next session of Fierce Foundations Fit Club starts April 13!

This 10-week clinical exercise program meets twice per week and focuses on improving quality of life factors specific to gynecological cancer survivors including:
- Cardiovascular/muscular health
- Functional movements/range of motion
- Strength training for pelvic floor muscles
- Nutrition counseling
- Body composition
- Emotional well-being

This program offers a safe space to connect with others going through similar journeys and explores positive outlets for stress relief. It is sponsored by the MUSC Hollings Cancer Center and a physician's referral is required.

Everyone please welcome Emily Sjodin as the MUSC Wellness Center's new Clinical Exercise Program Assistant! Emily will be providing support to our Clinical Exercise Department so that our programs can continue to grow and provide wellness resources to the Charleston community. Emily is also on our amazing Personal Training team!

Here is a message from Emily:
I grew up in South Dakota but spent some time moving around before ultimately settling in Charleston to pursue my degree in Exercise Science at the College of Charleston. What has always fueled my passion for fitness goes beyond the science, it’s the community that surrounds it. Watching people show up for each other, celebrate wins together, and find a sense of belonging through movement is what it’s all about. While in school, I discovered another large draw to the field for me was understanding how to maximize health to drive performance, and that curiosity is what continues to push me to learn and grow, most recently earning my NSCA Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist certification. My experience includes time at Evolt360, where I worked closely with body composition technology and metrics to help clients understand their health data in a more accessible way. Seeing how impactful those insights could be across all populations really deepened my appreciation for how data can motivate people to lead healthier lives and guide them to better health outcomes.

We wrapped up another amazing session of Pick It Up for Parkinson's last week!

Here you can see pictures from our final day of play, which included a fun filled tournament and a potluck. Our PIU participants are some of the most determined, resilient, and friendly people we get to work with here at the MUSC Wellness Center.
