Past Project Spotlight | Wando-Welch Terminal – Mount Pleasant, SC ⬇️

If you live in Charleston, you’ve likely seen the port’s massive ship-to-shore cranes. In partnership with the South Carolina Ports Authority, SJ Hamill completed the construction of four pile-supported foundations to support their commissioning at the Wando-Welch Terminal.

Highlights from the scope of work:
• Removal of existing concrete pavement and structural excavation
• Installation of 120 HP14x73 piles
• Four reinforced concrete foundations with crane tie-down assemblies
• Over 95% of work self-performed by SJ Hamill
• Coordinated construction within an active Port facility

This project expanded the capacity of one of the busiest container terminals on the East Coast — supporting continued growth and efficiency at the Port of Charleston.

Past Project Spotlight | High Battery Stone Revetment Repair – Charleston, SC ⬇️

We’re proud to have played a role in preserving one of Charleston’s most iconic landmarks through the High Battery Stone Revetment Repair Project — an important erosion control effort protecting the historic seawall and Charleston Harbor shoreline.

Highlights from the scope of work:
• Installed ~8,000 tons of stone and 7,400 SY of geotextile fabric
• Repair work stretched 1,375 ft along the Battery, extending 40 ft into the harbor
• All work performed by barge with careful coordination around tidal cycles
• Stone sourced from a Kershaw, SC quarry, staged in Charleston, and transported by material barge
• Innovative geotextile jig designed in-house to speed and improve fabric placement

This project not only safeguards the High Battery but also reflects SJ Hamill’s commitment to innovation and craftsmanship in coastal protection.

Past Project Spotlight | Bilbo Canal Widening – Savannah, GA ⬇️

We’re proud to have partnered with the City of Savannah on the successful completion of the Bilbo Canal Widening — a vital infrastructure project aimed at increasing stormwater capacity and helping reduce flooding during extreme weather events.

Scope of work included:
• East and west bulkheads with 819 WF steel combination wall + concrete cap
• Cast-in-place box culvert and upgraded stormwater piping
• 8,000 CY of canal excavation
• Access road improvements and management of contaminated soils

Completed in October 2024, this project plays a critical role in strengthening Savannah’s stormwater infrastructure and climate resilience!
