For Dr. Carolyn Thiedke, establishing a scholarship at MUSC () was a way to honor the mentor who shaped her career and to support future family medicine physicians.

For Dr. Isamar Perez Rodriguez, that support made a meaningful difference, easing financial pressure and allowing her to focus on caring for patients.

Now practicing family medicine in South Carolina, Rodriguez is doing what first called her to medicine. Building trust, caring for families and changing what's possible every day.

Scholarships don’t just support students. They help strengthen the communities those students go on to serve. 🩺💙

Bradley Perlitz knows firsthand what a scholarship can mean. 💙

As a graduate of the MUSC College of Nursing (MUSC College of Nursing), he received support that helped him through school and stayed with him long after. So he decided to pay it forward by working one extra day a month to create a scholarship for graduate nursing students.

When Perlitz met the first recipient, Olivia Renedo, it became more than financial support. It turned into encouragement, connection and someone in her corner.

“When you believe in a student, that belief carries into how they care for patients,” he said.

Thank you to The Sanctuary at Kiawah Island Golf Resort for hosting the 18th Annual Gourmet & Grapes this past weekend!

This incredible event brought together local and national culinary talent alongside award‑winning wineries – all in support of raising funds for cancer research at Hollings Cancer Center.

Thanks to the generosity of our community, $1,650,683 was raised to support life‑saving research and patient programs. We are deeply grateful to everyone who attended, donated, sponsored, and staffed this unforgettable event (despite the record low temperatures and snow in the Lowcountry!)

A $1 million grant from Breakthrough T1D is helping move bold science forward at the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC).

With this support, Dr. Leonardo Ferreira is exploring a new approach to type 1 diabetes research that could one day help restore insulin production without the need for immunosuppressive drugs.

Recently, MUSC Health celebrated the opening of the MUSC Health Kiawah Partners Pavilion, bringing 24/7 emergency care 🏥 and expanded services closer to the Sea Islands community.

This space is the result of years of collaboration and the generosity of Kiawah Partners, along with many other donors and community supporters who believe in access to care close to home.
