Back in the 1970s, studying at MUSC meant carrying stacks of books to the library and finding a spot at a crowded table.

Today, students tuck into cozy spots across campus, working on laptops and connecting through Wi-Fi. The tools have changed, but the energy is still the same.

Learning at MUSC has always been about coming together, whether it’s across a table or through a screen.

MUSC’s Dr. Minoo Kavarana is helping to lead advanced testing on the ExpandValve, a new pediatric heart valve designed to grow with a child’s heart.

This innovation is the result of a powerful collaboration with Clemson Bioengineering alumnus Lee Sierad and the Emerson Rose Heart Foundation, founded by a family who lost their daughter to a congenital heart defect in 2011.

Their story, and this device, are changing what’s possible for future families.

Breast Cancer Awareness Month isn’t just about wearing pink. It’s about showing up for survivors, for families, and for one another.

This month, our Annual Breast Cancer Survivors’ Expo brought together people from across the Charleston area to connect, learn, and share support.

The day was filled with hugs, conversations, and a whole lot of heart. It was a powerful reminder that healing doesn’t happen alone, it happens in community.

Students at MUSC use the James W. Colbert Education Center and Library every day, whether they’re meeting up for a group project, prepping for clinical training, or diving into research.

The building offers a mix of quiet study areas, classrooms, group rooms, and a library with nearly a million digital resources. It’s designed to support the way students learn and work across campus.

What does addiction have to do with the brain?

For some Charleston students, the answer came through a hands-on experience—literally.

MUSC researchers teamed up with the Charleston County Public Library to bring science to life, giving students the chance to hold a real brain and learn how substance use disorder affects it.

MUSC experts are helping families and athletes understand what chronic traumatic encephalopathy really is, what we know so far, and what researchers are still working to uncover.
