Sandra "Sandy" Marie Smiddy, a beloved tax accountant and enrolled agent for the IRS, passed away peacefully on April 3, 2026, in Louisville, Kentucky. Born on August 20, 1953, Sandy’s life was marked by unwavering dedication to her family, career, and community. She will forever be remembered for her incredible kindness, loyalty, and honesty.

Sandy’s educational journey was a testament to her determination and resilience. A proud graduate of Assumption High School, she furthered her studies at the University of Louisville, balancing the demands of raising a child and making a home for her family while attending school at night. This accomplishment stood as one of her proudest milestones, reflecting the depth of her commitment and work ethic.

Throughout her career as a tax accountant and enrolled agent for the IRS, Sandy not only excelled professionally but also took immense pride in her work. Her integrity and dedication were evident in every aspect of her role. Yet, it was her role as a mother and wife that shone most brightly in her life. Described by those who knew her as an incredible mother and wife, she was fiercely devoted, always placing the needs and happiness of her loved ones at the forefront.

Sandy was known for her gentle spirit; she never had a bad word to say about anyone and was regarded as one of the kindest and most charitable people. Her heart was full of love for her family and friends, and her warmth touched everyone she met. Among her cherished interests were making homemade gifts, nurturing her garden with zinnias planted each summer, and delighting in the simple beauty of yellow butterflies. She found joy in the sunshine and the tranquility of lakes, places where she felt most at peace.

Her legacy of generosity continued even in passing through her decision to be an organ and tissue donor, giving life to others in her final act of kindness.

Sandy leaves behind a loving family who will treasure her memory dearly. She is survived by her devoted husband, Wayne J. Smiddy; her daughter, Jennifer P. Morgan; her sister, Christine Motsch (Pat Morgan); her brother, William Motsch (Shawna); her step-granddaughter, Rebecca Smiddy Hiner; and her stepmother, Diana Motsch. These cherished family members carry forward her spirit and the profound impact she had on their lives.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Mary Jane Motsch; her father, William A. Motsch Sr.; her sister, Cynthia Motsch Bragg; and her stepson, Michael Wayne Smiddy.

Sandra "Sandy" Marie Smiddy’s life was one marked by love, perseverance, and kindness. She will be forever missed by her loved ones and remembered by all who had the privilege to know her.

Visitation to honor her life will be held on Saturday, April 18, 2026, from 12:00 PM to 4:00 PM at Grayson Funeral Home, 206 East Main Street, New Washington, Indiana 47162.

On Thursday April 2, 2026, Roy Dale Meredith, 84 passed away at U of L Trauma Center after suffering a fall in his home. Roy was born on July 1, 1941, in Louisville, KY to Russell and Katherine Meredith. Roy graduated from DuPont Manual High School in Louisville, KY on Tuesday, June 9, 1959.

He joined the Navy at 17 years old and served from 1959-1962 on the USS Rankin and the USS Francis Marion ships. He worked on the payroll in the ship's Dispersing Office. His ship, the USS Francis Marion, was one of the ships that was on standby in Cuba during the Cuban Missile Crisis. He served for three years in the U.S. Navy, and his ship was based out of Norfolk, VA. After his service was fulfilled, he went to work for the L&N Railroad, which later became CSX. He worked in Louisville, KY at the L&N building and Osborn Yards, at CSX Jacksonville, FL, and at Watson Yards in Indiana. He also worked for CSX in Brandenburg, KY and Bowling Green, KY. He retired from CSX in February of 2002.

He married Marjorie Elaine Lyon, Louisville, KY, on May 8, 1964 at St. Alban's Church, Louisville, KY. He and Marjorie were married almost 62 years. They had three children: Melody, Frank, and Kevin. They lived in Louisville, KY after they were married for over 12 years and then moved their family to Charlestown, IN in 1976.

Roy was preceded in death by Russell and Katherine Meredith (parents), David Meredith (brother), Ruth and Claud Lyon (mother and father-in-law), Frank E Lyon (brother-in-law), John Peterworth (brother-in-law), and Kevin Roy Meredith (son).

Roy was a loving husband, brother, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He is survived by Marjorie, his loving wife of 62 years, his sister, Doris Bowen (Danny), his sister, Linda Morrow (Jerry), his sister, Martha Smith (Chris), and his daughter-in-law Michelle Meredith. He is also survived by his son, Frank Elliot Meredith and his daughter, Melody Ruth Flowers (William), and his sister-in-law Marlene E Lyon. He is survived by grandchildren Angela Meredith, Becky Jackson (Tim), Johnny Lyon (Efren), Robert Roy Flowers (Audrey), Alex Meredith (Jessica), Taylor Meredith, Lea Meredith, Peyton Meredith, and Cammie Marcum (Aaron). His great-grandchildren are Ethan Ray Bridgewater, Raelynn Meredith, Emma Jackson, Lexi Jackson, Eli Elliot Jackson, Wesson Meredith, Remmington Meredith, Jackson Marcum, and Emma Nevaeh Marcum, and numerous nieces and nephews. In his day, he was an avid fisherman, and he always enjoyed swimming, picnics, and taking day trips to different towns. He enjoyed coin collecting and working crossword puzzles, which he was quite good at. He enjoyed going to flea markets and spending time with his family. He was also in bowling leagues in Louisville, KY, and he was quite a good bowler and received many trophies. Roy enjoyed watching Hee Haw, Larry's Diner, and Gaither Gospel Hour on TV, and he loved country music. He will be sorely missed by all.

Roy and Margie attended the Community Presbyterian Church, 1370 Monroe Street, Charlestown, Indiana 47111. Memorial contributions can be made to the church.

A memorial service will be held on Friday, April 17, 2026, at the Community Presbyterian Church in Charlestown, Indiana. Roy's family will receive visitors from 9:00 -11:30 am with the service to follow. Burial will take place in Louisville Memorial Gardens West.

Lawrence Curtis Lyons

Lawrence Curtis Lyons, a dedicated husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and respected member of the Charlestown community, passed away on March 30, 2026, in Charlestown, Indiana. Born on November 21, 1929, in Apalona, Indiana, Mr. Lyons lived a life marked by hard work, generosity, and an unwavering commitment to family and community.

Lawrence was known for his industrious nature and his willingness to give not just his love, but also his time and extensive knowledge. He owned and operated his own auto body repair shop, where he distinguished himself through excellence and mentorship, guiding several future repairmen in their careers. His generous spirit extended beyond his business; Lawrence, along with his sons, brother-in-law Maefiel James, and his sons, Steve and Dan James, completed a remarkable total of seven houses—2 of which were Lawrence's own, a testament to his dedication and skill.

A man of strong character and principle, Lawrence served in the Army with honor. He was stationed in Germany during World War II and later served during the Korean War. His military service was a fundamental part of his life and reflected his commitment to the greater good.

Lawrence’s interests reflected his love of life and community. He enjoyed working in his garden, camping in Brown County and Little Nashville, and traveling to places like Branson, Missouri, and Pigeon Forge, Tennessee. His passion for preservation and history was evident in his restoration of the old church bell from the Morrow Street church, which is now located at the back of St. Michael Church. He also played a significant role in placing the rock with the plaque naming St. Michael Cemetery. These contributions have left a lasting mark on his local community.

Among his proudest accomplishments was being chosen to carry the Indiana Bicentennial State Torch through Charlestown in 2016 at the remarkable age of 86. He was also honored with the St. John Bosco Award, served as the president of the Catholic Youth Organization (CYO) at St. Michael, coached Little League while his children played, and was a steadfast supporter of his grand and great-grandchildren's youth sports activities.

Lawrence was preceded in death by his parents, Arthur and Iva Jane Lyons; his brothers Eugene, John, Russell, Arnold, and David Lyons; and his sisters Gladys James, Marjorie Betz, Edith Neyenhaus, and Dorothy Lyons. He also endured the sorrowful loss of his granddaughter, Amanda Stahl.

He is survived by his loving wife of 74 years, Rovilla A. Lyons, who stood by his side throughout a lifetime of shared memories and love. Lawrence’s devoted children include Joanie (Robin) Roberts, Becky (Larry) Stahl, Jerry (Debbie) Lyons, Darrell (Margaret) Lyons, and Doug (Tami) Lyons. His legacy continues through his grandchildren: Katherine, Chris (Anne), Ben (Abby), Christie (Adam), Sarah (Shawn), Mary, Aimee (Adam), Matt (Kayla), Tyler (Anna), and Brandon (Hayley). He was also a proud great-grandfather to Aubrey, Caroline, Bella, John, Garrett, Kimber, Drew, Reese, Remie, Jason, Sawyer, Walker, Hudson, and Lincoln.

Visitation will be held on Monday, April 6, 2026, from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the Grayson Funeral Home in Charlestown, Indiana, and again on Tuesday from 9:00 AM until 10:30 AM also at the funeral home. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, April 7, 2026, at 11:00 AM at St. Michael Catholic Church, where he was a longstanding and active parishioner. Burial will follow at St. Michael Cemetery in Charlestown.

Expressions of love and sympathy may take the form of donations to St. Michael Church or Hosparus of Southern Indiana.

Lawrence Curtis Lyons’ life was one of generous giving, steadfast dedication, and quiet strength. His impact is felt deeply by all who knew him, and his memory will be cherished by the many whose lives he touched so profoundly.

Henry Newton DeWeese II, better known as Hank, age 61, of Charlestown, Indiana, passed away surrounded by his loved ones on March 29, 2026.

Hank was the first child of Henry Newton DeWeese Sr. and Mary Grace DeWeese (Palmer), born on May 29, 1964, in Indianapolis, Indiana, at 11:29 p.m. He spoke fondly of childhood visits with his grandparents, along with his many cousins, aunts, and uncles. His most treasured memories were from early life in Texas with his siblings Jimmy, Johnny, and Judy, along with many friends, and from his time in ROTC and track, where he holds a record in the 800-meter dash.

His adult years were spent working as a diesel mechanic alongside his parents, Henry and Grace, and his siblings Jimmy, Johnny, Judy, Clinton, and Amanda. He enjoyed working on cars with his father, Henry, and his brothers. He met the love of his life, Rosie, in Indianapolis, Indiana, in June of 1985, and they were married on June 18, 1989. Together they had four children whom he cherished dearly: Brandon, Kevin, Angela, and Aaron.

Hank enjoyed working on classic cars, hunting, and fishing. He especially loved spending time with his sons and his nephew, Matthew. Later in life, he enjoyed time with family and friends and was blessed with two nieces, ten nephews, and many honorary children along the way. His favorite part of life was watching his granddaughter, Jupiter, grow up.

Hank was preceded in death by his father, Henry DeWeese Sr.; his father-in-law, David Duff; his maternal grandparents, Arthur S. Palmer Sr. and Mabel Palmer; his paternal grandparents, William DeWeese and Mary F. DeWeese; his uncle, Arthur Palmer; and many other close family members and friends.

He leaves behind his beloved wife, Rosie Bell DeWeese; his mother, Mary Grace DeWeese; his children, Brandon DeWeese, Kevin DeWeese, Angela Holland (Zack), Aaron DeWeese, and Matthew DeWeese (Heather); his siblings, Jimmy DeWeese (Linda), Johnny DeWeese (Tammy), Judy DeWeese, Clinton Palmer (Bobbie), and Amanda Holcomb; and his granddaughters, Jupiter Holland and Blossom Holcomb. He is also survived by his nieces and nephews: John (Brittni), Chris, Jacob (Samantha), Cory, Shalyn, Kyle, Jesse, Maxwell, Layla, Morgan, Paula, and Wesley; and his great-nieces and great-nephews: Novella, Kayden, Violet, Emily, William, Charlotte, Jackson, Chandler, Maddie, Brantlee, and Charlotte.

Visitation will be on Friday, April 3, 2026, from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at Grayson Funeral Home, 893 High Street, Charlestown, IN. Cremation will follow and his ashes will be spread at a later date.

John P. Bowen, born August 19, 1934, passed March 28, 2026. John P. Bowen graduated from high school in Charlestown and attended two years at Indiana University Southeast. He was a bank examiner for the state of Indiana for ten years. He was a Sunday school teacher for several years at Charlestown Christian Church and Blue Lick Christian Church, and was a member of Stony Point Christian Church. John also wrote a book called Why I Believe Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and Why You Should Too. He was President of the First Bank of Charlestown for fifteen years. He was President of the New Washington State Bank for fifteen years and a director of that bank for five years after retirement. He was a board member of the North Clark Community Hospital for four years and served as head of the fundraising to start the hospital. John was a twenty-year member of the Charlestown Lions Club, served two years as President of the New Hope School, with the goal of getting professional school teachers and educators on the board, and two years in the now-defunct Optimist Club. He was President of the now-defunct Southern Indiana Installment Loan Association and served as President of Region 7 of the Indiana Bankers Association.

He is survived by his wife Jeanie Couch Bowen; sons Frank (Kimberly) and William (Eun Gean), and daughter Janice Jones (William); grandchildren Patrick Bowen (Leeza), Stephanie Doyle (Brandon), Amanda Webb (Joshua), and Tim Bowen; and great-grandchildren Madelyn Doyle, Annalee Doyle, and Thomas Bowen. He was predeceased by his son James Bowen; brothers Robert Bowen, James Bowen, and J.P. Bowen; and sisters Mary Ann Crismore and Marjorie Pieper.

The family will receive friends and loved ones on Wednesday, April 1, 2026, from 5 PM until 8 PM at Grayson Funeral Home in Charlestown. Life Celebration services will be held on Thursday, April 2, 2026, beginning at 11 AM at Stony Point Christian Church in Charlestown.

Linda S. Pritchett, a cherished resident of Madison, Indiana, passed away peacefully on March 21, 2026, at the age of 82. Born on May 18, 1943, in Prospect, Kentucky, Linda lived a life marked by creativity, warmth, and a deep love for those around her.

From an early age, Linda's passions shone through. She had a remarkable talent for sewing and was an accomplished seamstress who took great joy in making drapes, collecting exquisite fabrics, and diligently maintaining her sewing machine. Her artistic flair extended to various arts and crafts projects, which she pursued with enthusiasm and care. Linda’s home was a testament to her love for cooking, where she not only delighted in preparing meals but also in collecting cookbooks from diverse culinary traditions. In her younger years, she embraced the joys of fishing—both the thrill of the catch and the pleasure of savoring her fresh fish. Her affection for animals was evident in her careful tending of her beloved cats and dogs. In her final years, she found comfort in the companionship of her beloved cat Tommy, with whom she now rests in peace.

Linda’s family and friends were a central part of her life. She is survived by her loving niece, Sherry Hunter; her sister, Deloris Van Wye; nieces, Shari Wilson; nephews, Michael Neace, Gary Wayne Purvis, Jerry Neace, David Van Wye, and Kenneth Van Wye; and many great nieces and nephews who held her in high regard. She was also closely cared for and supported by her good friend and caretaker, Joyce Tharp.

Throughout her life, Linda experienced profound loss alongside her joys. She was predeceased by her mother, Mary Lyle; father, Murrell Lyle; sisters, Catherine Wyatt and Margaret Neace; nephews, Mark Wyatt and Rickie VanWye; and nieces, Debbie Conklin, Ilea Mannering, and Pam Bell.

Linda S. Pritcher’s life was one of dedication, artistry, and unconditional love. She enriched the lives of those around her with her kindness and creativity.

Alexander Latuch, Jr., known affectionately as "T**h" and "Butch," passed away peacefully on March 20, 2026, at the VA hospital in Louisville, Kentucky. Born on August 2, 1946, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Alexander lived a life marked by hard work, honesty, and generosity. He left a lasting impact on all who knew him.

A 1964 graduate of Rockwood High School, Alexander soon answered the call to serve his country. He proudly served in the United States Army from 1964 to 1966 and was a veteran of the Vietnam War. His commitment to duty was a testament to his character and dedication.

Following his military service, Alexander channeled his talents into a successful career, owning and operating Latuch Truck Repair Inc. and Latuch Trucking. His expertise in engines and machinery reflected his lifelong passion and skill in working with his hands.

Alexander was deeply connected to the land and nature. Growing up on a dairy farm, he developed an early appreciation for animals and the outdoors. An avid gardener, he took great joy in planting flower beds and vegetable gardens, nurturing life with patient care and enthusiasm. His love for the woods and building projects demonstrated the breadth of his interests and talents.

He is survived by his loving wife, Barbara Ann DeVary Latuch, of Charlestown, Indiana; his son, Alex Jason Latuch, also of Charlestown; and his daughter, Bernadette Dawn Latuch (Stephen Zerby) of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Alexander’s cherished grandson, Oberon Phoenix O’Koon-Latuch, resides in Pittsburgh as well. He is further remembered by his sisters Marlene Buljat (Tom), Anna Mary Flasher, and Beverly Rose, all of the Pittsburgh area, along with his brother Wesley Latuch (Belinda) of the same region. He also leaves behind several nieces and nephews from Pittsburgh.

Family and friends will have the opportunity to gather in his memory at Grayson Funeral Home - Charlestown, located at 893 High Street, Charlestown, Indiana 47111, for visitation on Sunday, March 22, 2026, from 2:00 PM until 7:00 PM, with a rosary service at 7:00 PM. A second visitation will be the following morning at the funeral home from 9:00 AM to 9:30 AM. A Mass to honor Alexander’s life will be held at St. Michael Catholic Church, located at Saint Michaels Drive, Charlestown, Indiana 47111, beginning at 10:00 AM, followed by his burial at Saint Michael Cemetery, 3110 IN-3, Charlestown, Indiana.

Rebecca "Jayne" Swan, a cherished homemaker and devoted mother and grandmother, passed away surrounded by family on March 19, 2026, in New Albany, Indiana.

Born on January 2, 1957, in Jeffersonville, Indiana, Jayne was known and loved for her engaging spirit and her joy in conversation, often found joyfully talking with those around her. Her passions included playing bingo, her fondness for all things jewelry, and the delight she took in spending quality time with family. She especially treasured holidays, embracing the spirit of celebration and togetherness they brought.

She was the beloved daughter of the late JoAnn Curtis and shared a partnership for 32 years with Hubert Fields, who preceded her in death. Jayne’s family now remembers her with love and honor, including her devoted daughter Amanda (Michael) Kelley, her grandson Alec Richert, her granddaughter Kailey Richert, and her sister Sharon (Phyllis) Pentecost.

Born on August 21, 1936, in Whitesburg, Kentucky, Bob lived a life marked by service, creativity, and deep affection for his family.

For most of his life, Bob found joy in construction, where he put his skills to work while also devotedly ministering for over 40 years. Bob was a founding member who established and built Freedom Gospel Church, in which he was also the pastor. His caring nature, abundant wisdom, and sense of humor left an indelible impact on those who knew him. Bob's interests were diverse, encompassing fishing trips with his grandsons, working in his shop, painting, camping, gardening, and studying the Bible. He was also known for his baking skills and his ability to create music with nearly any stringed instrument, especially the banjo and mandolin. Alongside his late wife Lavania, Bob participated in raising funds for the Crusade for Children by square dancing and playing music, a testament to his giving spirit.

Bob's proudest accomplishments included writing and publishing his book and sharing his teachings with others. He was a US Army veteran, embodying a sense of duty and commitment that he carried throughout his life.

He is survived by two cherished grandsons, Grant Miles and Justin Miles, along with many nieces, nephews, family, and church family who will carry forward his legacy and the treasured memories shared with him.

Bob was preceded in death by his parents, Arthur and Alta (Fields) Stidham; loving wife, Lavania Stidham; brothers, Darrell Stidham, Alvin Stidham, Dorris Stidham; and sisters, Lula Fields, Shirley Kelly, Sue Thomas, Louise Whitaker, Pearl Banks, and Evelyn Banks.

A visitation will take place on Friday, March 13, 2026, from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM and again on Saturday, March 14, 2026, from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM at the Grayson Funeral Home located at 893 High Street, Charlestown, IN 47111. A funeral service will follow at 11:00 AM, concluding the celebration of Bob's life. Burial will follow at Pleasant Grove Cemetery in Charlestown, Indiana.

Bob Stidham will be remembered for his contributions to his community, his unwavering love for his family, and his remarkable ability to find joy in both simple pleasures and life’s deeper meanings. He leaves behind not only memories of love and laughter but also a legacy of faith and service that will endure in the hearts of those he touched.
