This is another very young first time flower from the same batch as the fuchsia flower previously posted. The fruit pod was on my Fuchsia Thanksgiving NOID and the pollen came from my Schlumbergera x buckleyi NOID. You can see the traits of the true Christmas cactus in this orange offspring. The fuchsia seedling is the last photo if you missed it.

This is a very young result of a cross made in 2021 and planted in the winter of 2022. Blooming early, so I won’t start evaluating it until it blooms a second time.

Two of my Schlumbergera hybrids that are blooming before I would have expected. They aren’t even out of the 1” x 1” cells yet! It’s making g me feel rushed to get them transplanted, but I’ll try to wait until we get closer to spring. It will be interesting to see if they look any different when they have grown a little more.

One of my oldest Schlumbergera, I bought her while in University. I had 27 house plants in my dorm room until my Junior year. They just grew too big and had to stay at home. It was that summer when I realized I should switch from a major in music performance (bassoon) to horticulture. Plants and I have been lifelong friends.

Some of my hybrids blooming today. Siblings from the same cross between two of my NOID Schlumbergera parents. I’m really happy to see some lighter colors!

These seeds were planted in 2022. They’re a cross of a couple of NOID (no identification) Schlumbergera. One of the NOIDS was a dark orange/red Schlumbergera truncata. This seedling is lighter and the flower is smaller than that parent.

I’ll have a better idea of what the other parent was when I see more of the individuals flowering. There are a few more showing buds.

This is the first time any of this group has flowered. The flowers are small, but the outside of the tube is very visible. The petals are a dark orange and the tube is white.

This is Schlumbergera truncata ‘Chelsea’.

A rare, difficult to grow hybrid from Australia. It has a fringed or ruffled flowers and a distinct ring of pink inside. The flowers are supposed to be large, but mine have not been. This is the best flower I’ve had in the three seasons I’ve had her, so I took the opportunity to cross her with my Schlumbergera x buckleyi.

Group Chocolate Box number 2.

Similar to number 1, but the cladodes are more square. They are just as well defined as number 1.

The flowers are also similar in color, but slightly lighter I think. It would be so much better if I could photograph them outside.

This hybrid is from a different cross from any that I’ve posted so far this year. The group was named ‘chocolate box’, because I planted the seeds in a recycled container that had held chocolates.

The color is a soft red. The flowers are a nice size. I love the size and shape of the cladodes with their lovely sharp points.

Meet number 5 of the siblings. This is a version without the violet showing in the throat. Quite a nice red with a nice flower form as well. This is the first time it has bloomed.

One of my hybrids. She’s showing a lighter orange than she appears. The lighter areas are reflecting light and showing the white.

The flowers is pretty small, only about 2 inches. I’ve heard that cooler temperatures can affect flower size, but haven’t researched it yet.

This is number 4 of the siblings.
