Getting closer to blooming!

I started it late, but I couldn’t be happier to anticipate something flowering during the long month of March.
What do you use to keep your amaryllis stems upright during flowering? I don’t think there’s room in the pot for a pole of any kind.

One of my older hybrids is blooming again. Goodness knows we could use a bit more color around here in March. This is from a cross between my Schlumbergera buckleyi and an orange red Schlumbergera truncata.

I tried to dig out my back steps, gave up and decided to get a video instead. The snow is extremely heavy and is sticking to the shovel. It’s impossible to move while standing on the top step, and I can’t walk through the snow to shovel from ground level.

It was fun to look out the windows this morning and see all of the animal tracks in the snow. I know at least one bunny came through the garden early this morning. I also saw some sort of paw prints like a big cat, near the back slider. There are bobcats and cougars in the woods around here. We also have bears, but I have no desire to encounter one in my yard.

Meanwhile, the plows have arrived to clear the roads and driveways. I imagine many of my neighbors, who are suffering from cabin fever, will be fleeing the neighborhoods soon as we are cleared.

I found a little something for the garden while shopping yesterday. I don’t shop very often, and I try not to buy new things if I can help it. So, when I happened to find this feathered friend, I couldn’t resist.

To get a longer life out of it, I want to spray it with a clear coat of some kind before it goes in the garden. It’s made of metal. Anyone have a suggestion of what product would be best that’s compatible with the commercial finish?
