✨ Teaching by doing ✨
The other day I was taking out the compost and stopped to look at the sky.
I do this often as I like to watch the energy.
After standing there for a few minutes, my son came out of the house and asked what I was doing.
“I’m looking at the energy,” I told him.
“That’s not energy, it’s just a trick with your eyes,” he told me.
“No, not that,” I said. “Here.”
And I went on to show him how to relax his eyes and see the energy dancing in the sky.
“Oohhh, I see it!” He then shared back to me what he saw.
I’ve tried to show him this before, but he often brushed me off.
(Sometimes I think he sees me as the crazy lazy that talks to plants 😂)
But this time, he didn’t.
He watched what I was doing (unbeknownst to me) and came out because he was curious.
I thought of this as I was reading a conscious parenting book this morning.
It reminded me that kids won’t always listen to what you say, but they’re always watching what you do.
Parenting is one of the most challenging jobs we can have. (I used to be an engineer designing bridges and found that MUCH easier! 😂).
But it’s also an incredible spiritual path.
I love seeing it as an opportunity to find my edges of growth.
Where I can find more calm, more patience, more compassion, more love.
And teach that by finding more of it in me.
