Happy Birthday to Magic the medicine horse! I am so grateful for his presence in our lives. 23 years old. Most people don't know that Magic was a stallion for 13 years... and then abruptly gelded and shipped off to a sale. It was a good thing to geld him if his genes weren't needed anymore; however, the way in which it all went down was not the best for a healthy recovery. His incision hadn't' healed when I first met him. He was anemic from a loss of blood, and under weight. All good project horses seem to show up in our lives needed a little TLC and Magic was no different. We spent the next year getting him healthy and adjusting to a new life as a horse loving girl's new ride. It took years for us to be able to ride safely out into the world - mostly because of my own fears, but also some of his. We worked together over countless hours doing ground work, over and over, working on confidence and a soft feel. After all that time and connection, I wasn't aware of how much he was healing me, helping me, and giving me one little nugget of hope each time we worked together. It built a lot of resilience in me to keep up the work even when it felt like we would never truly get it. And then it all came together. We could ride any where together and do anything together. He is one of a kind, like every heart horse. I love how he knows exactly what a person needs. I love how he's so expressive and helps people experience his energy in positive ways.
