DiscoverEase in Movement - Alexander Technique with Mari Hodges Self-care skills for greater ease of movement, health and happiness

As an Alexander Technique Teacher and Therapeutic Pain Specialist, I help people reduce pain, tension and stress for greater ease and well-being. The Alexander Technique helps us to ease stress and free ourselves from habits of posture, movement and thought so that we can enjoy improved health and greater freedom and ease of movement. It helps us to recognize patterns of habit that interfere with a natural, easy way of being and to change them. We learn a new way of thinking that frees us of excessive tension – both muscular and mental – so that we can feel balanced and free to move without excess effort.

I enjoyed speaking with people about pain at Missoula Aging Services’ Community Table. Learning about pain and shifting your understanding of the problem has been shown to help people with recovery from persistent pain.

Happy National Pasta Day!

Last week, residents in the River Ridge Apartments enjoyed a MAS Community Table meal and talk with Mari Hodges to learn more about "What everyone should know about pain." Mari Hodges says "Pain is normal, but living with pain is not. Living in pain doesn't have to be inevitable, and learning about pain can be a first step to taking charge of your pain." Hodges works as a pain coach and life & movement coach. She is a therapeutic pain specialist and Alexander Technique specialist with a Master of Science in medicine in Pain Management.

I’m so excited to announce this podcast interview about Alexander Technique and how it can help with chronic pain and compulsive habits by Kristina Dobyns of https://beyondbingeeating.com/. Kristina is so intelligent, insightful and articulate, and has such an attitude of compassion, curiosity and learning, I loved our conversations! Kristina’s work around habit and coaching people with sustainable recovery is really fascinating.

Thank you all for coming to experience Alexander Technique and for your lovely comments, and to Montana Tango Festival Under the Big Sky for the opportunity to provide tuneups to the dancers!
Some of the comments:
Mari, Thank you so much for your healing gentle touch. Your insights into my body mechanics was amazing. Your concept of “RELAX” is exactly what I need to do and practice. You are a gifted and loving healer
I feel incredible after a generous tune up with Mari. I started in pain and ended with the sweet relief we all crave and my most easeful gait ever!
Such simple concepts: not worrying about posture, etc., but finding the ground (and your base) and then the simplicity of orienting your position by thought and finding a space that suits your body now, in the moment rather than efforting AGAINST everything to maintain an artificial space. Fascinating! Thank you!
Thank you Mari for bringing awareness to the balance points/support points in the foot! The micro-movements will prevent so much pain in my dancing! Lindsey Eckhoff
Gracias, por la energia, por transmitir amor y sabiduría… paz… Un sentir como el Tango. (Thank you for the energy, for transmitting love and wisdom… peace… A feeling like Tango.) Cristyan
I love how you led the (Alexander Technique for Tango Dancers) class Friday! I loved how you both taught our own posture and then ways to move with more social awareness in the room. Often line of dance, etc. is taught mechanically, like rules of the road. You showed that we have skills if we broaden our mindset. Eugene
Your class was beautiful. Much needed. Orlando
It was a wonderful and refreshing experience. Warm and caring, Mari listened to my request and worked alongside with me to address my concerns. 110% recommend
I felt a sense of relaxation. My body (muscles, joints) all seemed to work and move together. Thank you Mari!
The experience was very relaxing. It felt like it realigned my mind and body to openness. I needed it. It was very powerful. Will Calvert
My experience with the Alexander Technique and Mari helped me bring calm awareness to my body as a whole, and to my movements. Gabriella
After the tuneup I feel more relaxed and open. My back and thorax are more relaxed too. Thank you Mari! Graciela
Alexander Technique. Intuitive, welcoming, nonjudgemental. Insights on posture specifically related to tango embrace and connection. Eugene
