Feeling a bit stiff in the neck?

It's a pretty common problem. So here's an easy pose you can try at home that should loosen you right up!

It's called the Sphinx Pose:

1. Lie flat on your belly with your elbows under your shoulders, pressing into your palms and forearms.
2. Tighten your lower back, buttocks, and thighs to give you support as you lift your head and upper torso.
3. Look straight ahead and make sure to lengthen your spine.
4. Hold for 2 minutes.

What's the best yoga pose for lower back pain?

Glad you asked.

There are a variety of poses that are perfect for reducing lower back pain, many of which are easy and fun!

Take, for example, the Cat-Cow:

• Get down on all fours.
• Position your wrists underneath your shoulders and your knees underneath your hips.
• Make sure to balance your weight evenly on all four points.
• Breathe in as you look up and allow your stomach to drop down toward the floor.
• Breathe out as you tuck your chin in towards your chest, draw your navel toward your spine, and arch your spine toward the sky.
• Try to maintain full awareness of your body.
• Focus on finding and releasing the tension in your body.
• Continue this movement for about a minute.

There is a yoga pose for every type of body pain! So feel free to let us know in the comments below what type of pain you are experiencing, and we’ll be happy to show you some simple moves that you can start to practice all on your own :)

Although yoga has been widely practiced in the east for thousands of years, how/when did it reach the west?

In the late 1800’s, many yoga masters began to travel to the west. At the 1893 parliament of religions in Chicago, one master named Swami Vivekananda blew attendees away with his lectures on the universality of the world's religions, and of course, on yoga.

It wasn’t until 1947 that a master named Indra Devi opened the very first yoga studio in the US, in Hollywood. Following this, many other masters followed suit and Hatha Yoga began its explosion of popularity.

Now, Yoga is practiced by millions of people all over the world.
