What is the right age to start Botox?
Let’s start first by breaking down what causes a wrinkle. It’s movement from repeated expression or weight of descending fat pads that causes wrinkles. Botox helps with the movement aspect of wrinkles. Most wrinkles on the face are caused from animation or expression of the facial muscles. The movement causes the skin to fold in on itself. The repetitive folding over time is what creates the wrinkle, and if left untreated becomes deeper and deeper.
So how does botox stop this?
Botulinum toxin is injected into the muscle, binds to it and paralyzes the muscle from being able to move. So over time the skin where botox was injected stays smooth and wrinkle free because it couldn’t create the movement to cause repetitive folding thus deep wrinkles. Pair that with collagen and elastin loss, gravity causing fat pad/muscle/ligament laxity, as well as sun exposure and loss of moisture in the skin, it’s easy to see why Botox is just one part of the recipe for effective anti-aging or aging gracefully.
So what is the right age?
Some say the right age is when you start seeing soft static lines - static lines are wrinkles that when your face is at rest are still there. Some argue before that because you want to prevent the static lines from occurring in the first place. Ultimately it’s up to you on what you decide is best for your anti-aging regimen. I can only give you the education and the tools.
