Was glad to collaborate with Wayfinders in carrying out 2 different workshops supporting students and parents in healthy relationship development and substance use prevention.

đź’š In both spaces, we created shared language and understanding of how healthy bonds and attachment support positive core beliefs and healthy choices and coping strategies, while unhealthy ones are connected with the inverse.

đź’š We also engaged in authentic conversations, differentiating discipline from punishment and guilt from shame while introducing compassionate accountability as a way forward.

đź’š Loving the evolution of Wayfinders in the holistic approach of helping opportunity find every child, while recognizing the value of partnership with the full family system in this journey.

Look forward to future collaboration.

Loving the work Miriam Espaillat is doing with a cohort of parents in partnership with Ourbridge kids supporting immigrant families in their parenting journey while providing authentic community.

Special shout out to Perla Castro and longtime leader and new ED Salma Villarreal on their support in this collaboration.

We look forward to this ongoing partnership.

March is Women’s History Month and this podcast with Helen Hope Kimbrough and Dr. Charlitta Crowder Hatch on what a soft life for Black women looks like is worth the listen!

Proud of Perry Counseling teammate and Without Words founder Dr. Staisha Hamilton for the intentional work she’s doing in this space working directly with clients through movement and conversation, while also amplifying this conversation broadly.

Listen to the podcast linked in the bio and be on the lookout for opportunities to do Movement work with Dr. H in the near future…

The last 3 years working in partnership with Theatre Gap Initiative has been incredible.

While I enjoy our group sessions, my favorite thing is getting to see them perform in their Showcase where they are fully in their element!

Beyond talent, their growth in confidence and self-understanding is immeasurable.

Great things ahead for these scholars. Shout out to TGI for the opportunity to marry mental wellness and the arts while giving me a chance to bring my daughter, an aspiring performer, to see these talents on the rise!

Jameion, Monica, and I carried the message to the South Charlotte Jack and Jill cohort, speaking with students and parents about mental health.

I addressed the full group before we split up and Jack and Jill alum Monica facilitated a session with the teen Jill’s, while Jameion and I did one with the teen Jack’s.

Being able to do it my Alma mater West Charlotte High School on MLK weekend made it that much sweeter.

♦️Was glad to partner with Glendale Meeks of Child Care Resources Inc. in her QED Leadership in Action (Who are you?)” session for leaders in childcare.

♦️We tailored the “We gon’ make it”: Maintaining and Restoring Sanity While Leading In the Face of Constant Chaos” presentation for the unique realities they face as leaders in childcare centers.

♦️We also acknowledged the professional and personal weights that many may carry uniquely as Black women, while going over tangible ways to implement healthy boundaries and self-care.

Shout out to Glendale and QED for their intentional support of those who help develop and support the little people in our community.

The potential is limitless when men are given the space to fully express what goes on inside of us without judgement.

Our “Man Up” cohort of dads at The Learning Collaborative got to discuss the full range of emotions of the holiday season while creating space to discuss how to navigate the challenging, but often unspoken pieces of this time.

Appreciate the partnership and the space to facilitate true brotherhood…while also enjoying wings.

đź”· Was glad to connect with the professionals at the Administrators of Color (AOC) Conference sponsored by the North Carolina Association of Independent Schools.

🔷 It is a particular challenging time to be in positions where your profession and identity are under direct threat; especially as you have the spoken or unspoken responsibility of looking out for others on the margins in a climate pretending those margins don’t exist.

đź”· While providing a safe space for catharsis, we also set out to be sure they left with tangible ways to maintain their mental and emotional well-being in the midst of what feels like constant chaos.

I look forward to continued engagement.

It was good getting the band back together.

đź–¤ 7 or so years ago, Leondra Garrett, Jen Neitzel and I combined forces to help schools, organizations, nonprofits, and houses of worship take a trauma informed approach look at creating more equitable and inclusive policies and practices.

🖤 5 years ago, after getting a contract with the state of NC, we attempted our first virtual session, using a product—I won’t name—we never used again, as we were locked out of our own session.

🖤 5 years and dozens of trainings around the country later, we reconnected virtually with a hospital system in California that’s innovatively approaching the work, incorporating staff and patients with plans to scale and act on their learnings.

đź–¤ Contrary to the mythology, this necessary work can and still gets done when organizations are committed to their missions.

đź–¤ Our session was productive and heartwarming, reminding us that for the many potential harms of technology, with the right partners, a lot of good can come as well.

But who helps the helpers?

Was glad to do a fireside chat with Hannah-Marie Warfle of Homeless Services Network in discussing compassion fatigue and secondary trauma; and how those of us working with people in need, including those with Severe and Persistent Mental Illness and Substance Use Disorders protect our own peace in such challenging times.

Grateful for the partner with and support such a great group of people doing incredible work.

🟢Was glad to have the chance to sit down with some incredible processionals and have an important conversation about diverse paths towards healing and recovery in the substance use and behavioral health space.

🟢Thanks to Kristin Hepler for her organization and for the most generous introduction I’ve ever had.

🟢Love what Dr. Staisha Hamilton, Kelly Little, and Ward Blanchard all brought from the various perspectives, including Ward’s compelling presentation to kick us off.

🟢Thanks also to UNC Charlotte for hosting and being on the forefront of Collegiate recovery and substance use disorder awareness and support.

🟢When you have strong conversations with folks afterwards, that’s a great sign.
