Spring is in bloom and we can think of no better Women’s History Month Roundup & grand finale than to introduce you to Rita Barrett, CADC, our Primary Counselor for our Substance Abuse Intensive Outpatient Program.

✨ Rita was the first black female paramedic in among other firsts, and shares her path to McLeod that began with a passion for people, a pivot due to an injury, and a tenacious spirit of sowing seeds of possibility.

✨ To be in the same room with Rita is to experience to experience her presence, awareness, compassion and true wisdom. We are perpetually grateful for her24+ year longevity on our team, her leadership, and her insight into helping our patients navigate their own recovery journeys.

Women Who Run With The Wolves…

✨ In honor of Women’s History Month we honor the legacy and tenacity of our founder and namesake, Dr. Jonnie Horn McLeod (1922-2011).

✨In this interview in 1993 with Levine Museum Of The New South, Dr. McLeod details her experiences dealing with discrimination both in medical school and in medical practice.

✨ Her intentional inclusivity and heart for making healing and hope possible for the most marginalized of patients continues to be our north star as an organization.

✨ We celebrate the “wildest woman we know” and all the women who comprise a majority of our staff and leadership team across our state.

Happy

To step into the office of our Lenoir Program Manager, Stacey, is to experience her joyful and people-loving spirit. Happy

✨ She has been past of our team for almost 10 years (as of August). She describes her Lenoir team as family.

“Our staff is here to see lives change by helping patients during their recovery. We want to see patients gain stability, reconnect with family, find a job/maintain employment, and be able to purchase a home or vehicle for the first time.”

✨ When she’s not busy with leading our Lenoir team she enjoys time with her family, being outside, watching/playing sports, building legos (which you might spot in her office) and attending church.

✨ Stacey and her team are thrilled that we will be moving our Lenoir clinic to a new location in town later this year! We are currently hiring a Licensed Practical Nurse for our Lenoir location if you are local to area.

💭 Maybe she needs a new LEGO set to go with the new office?

👏 We appreciate and are so grateful for you, Stacey!
