As we wish you and your loved ones a Happy New year, we want to inform you of a few changes that are happening at Uptown Psychotherapy in this New Year.

We are moving our practice just up the road to 1018 East Boulevard Suite #3. It’s a charming space that accommodates our new hybrid schedules.

We are proud to be a practice with the reputation of retaining the finest and most talented therapists and help them build their own successful practice. In this spirit, we say good-bye to a phenomenal therapist Yasmine Jeffers as she launches her own practice in a couple of months. It goes without saying that she will be missed. We are grateful and fortunate to have had her for over 6 years! But as we say good-bye to Yasmine and have helped her build her own prospectively successful practice, we welcome a new therapist.

Please join me in welcoming Caroline Bundesman. Caroline brings enthusiasm and experience and will provide individual and couples counseling. As a Marriage and Family Therapist, and a systems thinker, she believes that we better ourselves as we are bettering our relationships with others and our environments. Caroline believes that relationships establish a path to the evolution of personal and community transformation, and fuel overall wellbeing and understanding.

Her style is collaborative and she sees herself as a cheerleader and co-creator of new experiences and perspectives.

Welcome Caroline and we look forward to a productive and Healthy New Year for all!

Thoughts on grief...

“All those years I fell for the great palace lie that grief should be gotten over as quickly as possible and as privately. But what I discovered is that the lifelong fear of grief keeps us in a barren, isolated place, and that only grieving can heal grief. The passage of time will lessen the acuteness, but time alone, without the direct experience of grief, will not heal it.” -Anne Lamott

A simple introduction to the practice of mindfulness.

Becoming more aware of where you are and what you’re doing, without becoming overly reactive or overwhelmed by what’s going on around you.

'Our fears are like dragons guarding our most precious treasures.' -Ranier Maria Rilke

I love how this quote and this short film illuminate our deeper work...to compassionately understand our fears so that we can friend those parts and journey together toward freedom and progress. It's not easy, and yet, it is much easier than trying to get rid of or numb the parts of us that we don't like about ourselves...

Self-care has become somewhat of a cliche in our society, especially in the mental-health world and yet, at it's core, is a crucial practice, especially during unpredictable times such as what we are facing in the midst of Covid-19. This article, written by the International OCD Foundation, is pertinent for those with or without OCD. I have found that implementing any one of these practices becomes easier when I 'stack' or 'pair' habits which essentially means combining practices within an already established routine such as eating breakfast outside or thinking of what I am grateful for while brushing my teeth. Above all, this practice is fueled by kindness and self-compassion in an imperfectly perfect way.

Washing your hands and practicing social distancing are great practical ways to take care of your physical health during this time. However, it is also important to take care of our mental health. This page will provide you with tips and techniques on how to take care of yourself during COVID-19.
