Why seeking better behaviors will take you the farthest in your weight loss journey. πŸ₯Ύ
If you're within the guardrails of your diet, you're golden. Adding certain behaviors gives you the insurance that you will get to your destination! 😁
Here are some basics:
1. Plan ahead and anticipate challenges.
2.Limit variables, like too many food choices or complicated recipes (start with 3 sources of protein, carbs and fats) that can make tracking calories too hard.
3.Limit eating out, track food in some way, no mindless snacking, limit alcohol.
4.Reduce stress wherever possible. πŸ§˜β€β™€οΈ
5.Manage your food environment so you're not constantly tempted to eat items that will send your diet down a bad path.
6. Stay positive and do not speak to yourself any different than a supportive friend would. πŸ₯°
7. Sleep 7-9 hours as much as possible (I see you parents and menopause ladies, I understand) πŸ’€
8.Move as much as possible- this is important. πŸšΆβ€β™€οΈπŸƒβ€β™€οΈπŸ‹οΈβ€β™€οΈπŸŠβ€β™‚οΈπŸ€Ύβ€β™‚οΈ
9. Find your tribe that supports you and use them!
The challenge I see most often is being consistent- on track for 5 days and off 2 - yes it's usually weekends that are difficult- that's where better behaviors can help. Think of yourself as the person that has these behaviors, does these habits, and IS the person that eats the way you desire to, longterm, not just for the term of your diet. The process of reaching and your goal and then maintaining it, is actually straight forward if you just follow it! πŸ’ͺπŸ‘Š

Want to lose belly fat?

Start doing these things:

1- Strength training, at home or at a gym. This will help to burn more calories because muscle is the most active tissue metabolically.

2- Commit to a diet that has at least 135 grams of protein and 25 grams of fiber per day. This will also help to increase your metabolic rate because protein requires more energy to break down than fat or carbs. This will also reduce cravings.

3- Eat a diet that is primarily from non processed whole foods. These are foods where you know all of the ingredients listed on the product label or are in their natural state.

4- Get at least 7 hours of sleep every night. This is key to recovery from working out. It is also key to regulating your hormones.

5- Drink plenty of water, 2-3 liters. This reduces cravings, helps energize muscles, flushes your kidneys, helps skin health and helps to maintain a healthy digestive tract.

We offer 1:1 nutrition coaching to give you everything you need to be successful in your weight loss journey. Want a plan customized just for you? Comment Yes or DM.

How Macros and Movement Changed My Life

Struggling with food controlling too much of your life and mood? There was a time that I thought about my next meal, what I couldn't eat, what I could and how it made me feel. I eliminated food groups, and made drastic changes only to hit a breaking point when I realized I wasn't seeing results no matter how "perfect" I ate.

Then I joined CrossFit...and died! πŸ₯΅ My rationale was that I grew up on a farm and was used to lifting heavy things and being physically active except that was, oh, like 18 years prior. 🀣 A lot had changed since then, including the weight I had gained and the lack of activity. I lost some initial weight by joining CrossFit but then it stalled.

The breakthrough: learning about macros. It helped me understand what my body was built on and what it needed: protein, fats, and yes, carbs! This helped me start to see food differently and helped me have more energy, as well as fuel for my day and workout, feel so much better and gain control over my eating. This was all a significant improvement from so many angles! Another bonus to macros is that I could still eat things I loved and enjoyed eating, it was like having food freedom even though it was a diet and I was losing weight!

By now I enjoyed lifting weights and was trying to do better in CrossFit than the week prior. With my new way of eating I learned it wasn't just about lifting heavy weights, I really began to see a transformation in my body. πŸ’ͺ

Exercise became a priority and it no longer felt like something I had to do or make myself do, I looked forward to it, and it was a habit I developed. As a result I stopped making excuses and added in some walking after CrossFit. For me it was a good cool down after a rigorous workout but also as a type 1 diabetic, hard workouts makes my blood sugar go up and it was a way to allow my body sugars to normalize naturally.

Another impact was the mindset changes I experienced. I felt in control not just of my food and food choices but I had more positive structure in my life in other areas, boundaries saying no to things that didn't align with my goals, realizing I was stronger than I realized and could do so much more if I put my mind to it, I knew just how strong my mental fortitude was, once I found it! πŸ™‚

Here's the thing: past weight loss setbacks don't define your future success. What’s important is for you to keep learning about your body and how your mind works. When you figure that out, you will have a pathway to success.

Embarking on a weight loss journey?

Don't underestimate the power of finding your 'why.' πŸ€”Your reason for wanting to change can be a powerful motivator, especially on tough days. Whether it's for health, confidence, or simply feeling better, knowing your 'why' can keep you focused and committed. For example if you're tempted to overeat, you think is that cookie more important or is being healthy to see my children grow up more important? πŸ’ͺ

To find your why, think why do I want to lose weight? Your answer might be to look and feel better. Ok, ask but why do you want to feel and look better? Maybe an answer is because I want to have the confidence to go places and do things I don't right now because I hide behind loose clothes and don't go out. Ask again, why do you want confidence to go places and do things? The answer might be because I no longer go out socially like I used to, and do things I used to enjoy, or go places I used to like to go because I don't feel comfortable doing it. That's your why! Basically you want to live your life and do things you want to do and feel good doing it! πŸ₯°πŸ˜

Hang onto that when you face challenges. Remember how you feel now and how you will feel when you take your life back after you reach your goal!! πŸ₯³πŸŽ‰

Take some time to reflect on your goals and reasons, and let them be your guiding light on this journey.

When it comes to our relationship with food, we often find ourselves searching for excuses rather than taking ownership. We attribute our struggles to factors like age, hormones, metabolism, stress, or everyday challenges. While some of these may indeed play a role, it's essential to recognize that we still have the power to take action.

Let's be clear: there's a recurring trend here. Before pointing fingers externally, it's crucial to introspect. What can we personally do about our situation? This question should be our first response when facing any challenge.

It may not be easy, but it's vital to dig deep within ourselves. This introspection may feel uncomfortable, but it's the most effective path to the results we desire. The sooner we take ownership of our actions, the sooner we can identify and address what needs to change.

You might think, "It's easy for you to say." After all, I'm a nutrition coachβ€”how would I know- because I have been there, after all I wasn't born a nutrition coach! I've witnessed and supported countless individuals like you in overcoming obstacles they once deemed impossible. And the common thread among them? They stopped believing their goals were unattainable and took ownership and action!
