"Children in the U.S. are at risk of different diseases than children in other countries. Vaccine recommendations in the U.S. are designed to help children resist serious illnesses so they can stay healthy, and our communities can stay healthy." - Dr. Jose Romero, AAP Committee on Infectious Diseases

The recommended pacing of childhood vaccines in the U.S. is based on decades of evidence-backed data and testing, ensuring that children receive the strongest protection against preventable diseases when they are most vulnerable and when their bodies will respond best.

Each ingredient in a childhood vaccine is critical in helping ensure vaccines remain widely available so your child can stay healthy and learning.

Aluminum, for example, plays a key immune-boosting role in various childhood vaccines, providing kids with the greatest protection from some of the most serious preventable diseases. Ask your pediatrician if you’d like to know more about aluminum in vaccines or if you have any other questions about vaccine ingredients.

Harmful myths suggesting that vaccines cause autism sow fear and distrust in vaccines, ultimately jeopardizing the great progress we’ve made in preventing serious childhood diseases. For decades, scientists have studied the potential causes of autism, and have repeatedly found no credible link between childhood vaccines and autism. Any effort to misrepresent sound, strong science poses a threat to the health of children and does a disservice to our autistic community.

The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recently added misleading claims to its autism webpage. We want to be clear: decades of high-quality, large-scale studies show that vaccines do not cause autism. "Parents deserve peace of mind. Decades of rigorous research have shown vaccines do not cause autism," said Dr. Susan Kressly, president of the American Academy of Pediatrics. "Vaccines are one of the safest and most effective ways to protect children’s health and help them thrive."

The American Academy of Pediatrics stands with members of the autism community who have asked for support in stopping this rumor from spreading any further. Learn more: https://bit.ly/4rbx4FX

Pediatricians are frequently asked about the RSV shot — what it is, who should receive it, and how it can provide the necessary protection for babies during RSV season.

Because the RSV shot works differently than traditional vaccines, parents have several options when it comes to RSV protection. Pregnant mothers or their newborn can receive the immunization, offering flexibility in how families choose to help their infants build resistance to severe illness. The RSV shot provides antibodies that start working to protect babies right away, and lasts throughout a typical RSV season.
