As a pediatrician at Levine Children’s, Dr. Sai Lakshmi is passionate about caring for children and supporting families through every stage of their health journey.

She earned her medical degree from Osmania Medical College in India and has been practicing medicine since completing her residency in 2009. Board-certified by the American Board of Pediatrics, Dr. Lakshmi brings years of experience and a deep commitment to helping young patients thrive.

For her, one of the most meaningful parts of working in pediatrics is the lasting impact she can have on a child’s life. “The most profound reward is the ability to influence a person’s health trajectory for an entire lifetime,” she shares.

Dr. Lakshmi also emphasizes the importance of caring for the whole family, not just the patient. “As a pediatrician, you aren’t just treating a patient—you’re supporting a family unit.”

We are so proud to support children and families every step of the way and even more proud to have a compassionate team of pediatricians like Dr. Lakshmi to care for our patients.❤️

At 16 years old, Atrium Health Levine Children's patient, Jeremiah faced high blood pressure and high cholesterol — health challenges his father had also battled for years.

Determined to take control of his health, Jeremiah turned to Levine Children’s HEARTest Yard Congenital Heart Center, home to Charlotte's first and only pediatric cardiology program. With guidance from his care team, he set out on a mission to change his story — changing his diet and turning to heathier habits like running and playing basketball.

Despite his health challenges, Jeremiah has stayed dedicated to transforming his own health and has inspired his family to do the same.

Davidson College Men's Basketball invited Jeremiah and his family for a special weekend to celebrate his incredible journey. During this experience, he toured the team's practice facility and received a one-of-a-kind surprise — his very own locker in the team's locker room filled with Davidson Wildcats swag. He also joined the team as he watched their pre-game practice, was recognized on the court during their game against LaSalle and celebrated the team's big win with them in the locker room after the game.

Jeremiah, we are so proud of our determination and are honored to care for you through every step of your journey.

Dr. Christine Green brings more than 25 years of pediatric experience to Levine Children’s, where she will care for patients through a hybrid model that includes virtual primary care and in-person extended care pediatrics at Atrium Health Levine Children’s Rock Hill Pediatrics.

The role allows Dr. Green to meet families where they are, offering convenient access to care while maintaining the hands-on connection that is central to pediatrics.

“This hybrid opportunity allows me to reach families in the way that works best for them, without losing the in-person care that is so vital to treating the whole child,” she said.

Dr. Green values lifelong learning and adaptability in a field that continues to evolve alongside the needs of patients and families.

“I feel like my experience gives me a strong foundation, but I’m always willing to learn new things and adapt,” she said. “Families change, and care has to change with them.”

For families new to pediatric care, Dr. Green emphasizes the importance of trust and partnership.

“The best advice I can offer is to find a pediatrician you trust,” she said. “This should be the person you turn to when you have questions, when you’re scared or when you’re excited about a new milestone. You deserve a provider who listens, explains and feels like a teammate, not an opponent.”

Outside of medicine, Dr. Green enjoys attending live sporting events with her husband. She also remodels well-loved dollhouses to donate to children with special needs, participates in multiple book clubs and performs regularly with a local community theater group.

She is excited to extend her experience, compassion and clinical expertise to support children and families through both virtual and in-person care. Learn more about virtual care at Levine Children’s: https://bit.ly/46lwJZB

A true champion on and off the pitch

In October 2025, Layla’s was diagnosed with leukemia — a finding that changed life as she knew it. She had always been active and loved playing soccer, flag football and gymnastics.

Following her diagnosis, Layla had to step away from some activities she knew and loved to face intense treatment including bone marrow biopsies, multiple rounds of chemotherapy and many visits to Atrium Health Levine Children’s Hospital, all of which she underwent with inspiring courage. Despite having to adjust to life as a cancer patient, Layla’s bright and joyful spirit remains unchanged.

With the constant support of her family and her care team at Levine Children’s, Layla approaches every day with the determination and heart of a true champion. A devoted Charlotte sports fan, Charlotte FC truly has her heart. This Saturday, she’ll be honored as the honorary captain at the home season opener, recognizing her remarkable strength and resilience through some of life’s toughest challenges.

Whether she’s on the field or cheering from the stands, she reminds us of what it truly means to be a champion and we are proud to be in her corner through every step of her health journey. ❤️

At first glance, Asher is a typical 3-year-old: outgoing, full of energy and happiest when he’s surrounded by monster trucks, tractors and cars. But just nine days after he was born, his life took an unexpected turn.

When something alarming showed up on Asher’s newborn screening, a call from the pediatrician sent his parents rushing to Atrium Health Levine Children’s Hospital. His mom, Julia, knew something wasn’t right — her newborn was jaundiced and didn’t look like himself. Within hours, doctors delivered a difficult diagnosis: galactosemia, an ultra-rare genetic condition.

Galactosemia means that Asher’s body can’t break down galactose found in dairy. Instead, it turns toxic and poses serious risks to his brain, liver and other organs. Early diagnosis and specialized care were critical, and Asher’s team at Levine Children’s Hospital helped stabilize him and guide his family through the unthinkable.

Asher is one of only 15 children in the Charlotte region battling this rare disease.

While there is currently no approved treatment, Asher’s care depends on constant monitoring and strict dietary control. The reality is that without this extra caution, seizures or severe developmental delays could appear at any time. His family, school and care team take protective measures every day to make sure that Asher is safe.

Today, Asher is thriving — a joyful toddler who can often be found racing monster trucks across the floor and enjoying time with his family, especially his cousins and little sister. His journey has inspired his mom to become a passionate advocate, traveling to conferences and standing beside families affected by galactosemia and other rare diseases.

Keep racing forward, Asher! We’re cheering you on every step of the way 🌟

Courtland is an amazing teammate and is part of the Children’s Hospital Inpatient Pediatric Specialists (CHIPS) team at Atrium Health Levine Children's Jeff Gordon Children’s Center. With nearly a decade of nursing experience, she brings a deep commitment to compassionate, family-centered pediatric care.

As a registered nurse since 2014, Courtland began her clinical career in adult neuroscience before discovering her passion for pediatric care. Since 2016, she has worked exclusively with pediatric patients, gaining extensive experience caring for children and supporting families during some of their most vulnerable moments.

“I’m drawn to caring for people in their most vulnerable moments and turning empathy into meaningful action,” Courtland said. “In pediatrics, that means seeing children as whole humans, not just small patients, and supporting their families alongside them.”

Courtland’s clinical philosophy centers on advocacy, trust and presence. She believes the way patients and families are cared for during difficult moments can shape their future experiences with health care, and she is passionate about creating environments of safety, reassurance and respect. Working with children, she says, also means helping ease fear and offering stability during overwhelming situations.

In her new role with CHIPS, Courtland looks forward to continuing to care for hospitalized children while practicing with an expanded scope. She is especially eager to build strong, trusting relationships with patients and families, collaborate closely with interdisciplinary teammates and further develop her clinical skills.

“This role allows me to continue doing meaningful work while growing as a clinician,” she said. “I’m excited to work alongside a new team and collaborate to provide the best possible care for every child.”

Courtland is grateful for the opportunity to care for children and families during critical moments—and hopes to bring comfort, confidence and even a smile to each patient she serves.

Celebrating a true one-of-a-kind fighter ❤️

Since birth, three‑year‑old Atrium Health Levine Children’s patient, Adeline has been seeing Dr. Leona Belden. From Adeline's very first few visits at Levine Children’s Piedmont Pediatrics, Dr. Belden has been an important part of her story — helping her grow and guiding her through a care journey that quickly became more complex than anyone expected.

When Adeline was still an infant, her mom Olivia — a nurse practitioner with Levine Children’s — noticed she was struggling in ways that didn’t seem typical. Dr. Belden listened closely, monitored every detail and moved quickly to coordinate testing and specialty appointments to get the answers she needed as soon as possible.

Further testing revealed that Adeline had SETD5 mutation and a WDFY3 gene variation, both rare genetic disorders that would lead to developmental delays. As with most children born with rare genetic conditions, Adeline’s parents, knew she would need extra support in reaching milestones.

Despite facing a diagnosis her family knew little about, Adeline wasn’t navigating it alone. With Dr. Belden leading the way, her care team collaborated across specialties, coordinated therapies and provided ongoing monitoring — ensuring that every piece of her rare disease journey was connected, supported and centered on helping her thrive.

Today, Adeline is healthy, energetic and determined — keeping up step‑for‑step with her big brother Rhett, who also sees Dr. Belden. Her early challenges now stand alongside her remarkable progress, made possible by a combination of resilient spirit, a loving family and truly exceptional primary care.

We’re celebrating Adeline’s strength and continue to cheer her on as she reaches every milestone in her journey. ❤️
