Supplement labels don’t tell you everything you think they do.

Most parents look at the milligram strength of a capsule or supplement and assume the higher the number, the better. But that number doesn’t really tell us much.

What matters more is the quality of the supplement and whether or not it can be absorbed.

If the supplement is not well absorbed, it’s not helpful.

Part 2: Hidden toxins and simple swaps that protects hormones needed for proper growth and development for you and your entire family👇

🌿 Fragrance-free or truly natural personal care - I love Primally Pure- very clean ingredients!

🥗 Glass or stainless steel instead of plastic (especially for hot foods)

🧽 Non-toxic cleaners (vinegar, baking soda, or clean brands)

🍎 Organic when possible—especially the Clean 15 and Dirty Dozen

You don’t have to do everything at once. Start with one swap, then build. Small changes = big wins for hormone health. 💛

Hidden toxins can quietly disrupt your child’s hormones, and yours!

Common culprits I see in practice:

🧴 Fragrance & personal care products- hairspray, deodorant, lotions. Anything with parabens or phalates

🍱 Plastics (especially when heated)- water bottles

🧼 Conventional cleaners- with stong scents

🌾 Pesticides on food

These endocrine disruptors can impact mood, growth, sleep, and early puberty.

Small swaps make a big difference. Start with what touches their skin, food, and air every day.

Progress over perfection. 💛 Let me know if you need suggestions for products to swap!

Practicing Integrative medicine allows us to look deeper: addressing root causes, correcting nutrient imbalances, reducing inflammation, and supporting the body’s natural ability to heal.

If you’ve been Googling your child’s chronic illnesses, trying to figure out what’s going on, you found the right page!

When Deb (pharmacist) and I work together, chronic illness becomes something we can understand and improve, not just manage.

Here’s to a year focused on systems-based, individualized healing and real progress for our kids and families. ✨

Asthma and air quality

Did you know that kids with asthma who are regularly exposed to secondhand smoke or poor indoor air quality are at higher risk of ER visits?

In fact, a study using Austin Air purifiers in homes of children with asthma showed a 20% reduction in ER visits for those kids.

As an integrative pediatrician, I focus on supporting the whole child—not just treating symptoms. That means looking at nutrition, lifestyle, and environmental factors, including the air your child breathes every day.

Clean air isn’t just a nice-to-have—it’s a real step toward preventing flare-ups and supporting lung health.

Zinc can be a powerful immune ally for kids —but only when it’s used correctly.

✔️When zinc helps:
> At the very beginning of a cold or viral illness
> Short-term immune support
> In children with known or suspected deficiency

🚫When zinc can backfire:
> Used daily for months “just in case”
> Given in high doses or stacked across multiple immune products
> Without adequate copper → nutrient imbalance risk

⏰When to stop:
> After a few days of acute illness support
> Once symptoms are clearly improving
> If zinc is already included in a multivitamin or immune blend

👩‍⚕️Integrative pediatrician perspective: More supplements do not equal a stronger immune system.

Timing, dose, and duration matter.

Comment “air” and I’ll send you the link!

We breathe about 10,000 liters of air every day… so clean air isn’t just nice to have—it’s essential for our health.

In medical school, we learn about outdoor air quality and pollution, but we did not learn about indoor air quality!

That’s why I personally use Austin Air at home and in my office.

Here’s why it stands out:

Clinically-proven air purification.

Uses activated carbon + medical-grade HEPA technology recommended by the CDC, EPA, and WHO.

Removes dust, mold spores, VOCs, and airborne particles—even as small as 0.1 microns (yes, including many of the common circulating viruses).

Outperforms over 100 other purifiers.

In a study with kids with asthma exposed to secondhand smoke, it reduced ER visits by 20%.

Clean air = healthy lungs, body, and mind.

Treating symptoms may quiet the alarm, but it doesn’t fix what’s causing it. As an integrative pediatrician, I always ask why a child’s body is struggling.

Because healing happens when we address the root cause, not just the symptoms. 🌱

What to do if your child is throwing up?

First thing, I always ask: “do you have any Plantadophilus on hand?”

30-60 minutes after vomiting, give Plantadophilus (it’s a gentle probiotic) and mix in with some apple sauce and dry ginger to help with nausea.

Comment “stomach” and I’ll send link to our Plantadophilus.
