My Brothers House For over 25 years, MBH has been serving the youth of North Carolina through Residential Level III Group Home and Foster Care.

My BROTHER’S House is a North Carolina approved Residential Treatment (Level III) and Therapeutic Foster Care Placement agency located in Charlotte, NC. We are here to provide support and a safe, nurturing environment for the youth who some would consider “at-risk.” We aim to lower the risk and be the catalyst of change, inspiration and success for kids who have experienced challenges early in life.

Position: Para-Professional
Purpose of Position: To provide direct care for youth ages fourteen to eighteen. The Residential Counselor is responsible for the safety and security of all clients; therefore, the ability to set limits is a critical function. The counselor is expected to be professional and therapeutic in his/her practices and interactions with the clients and develop healthy, positive relationships with them.
Qualifications:
“Paraprofessional” individual who has a GED or high school diploma. A qualified professional or associate professional shall provide supervision with the population served. The supervisor and the employee shall develop an individualized supervision plan upon hiring. The parties shall review the plan annually.
Employment: The Paraprofessional shall work a 40-hour-per-week schedule consisting of 1st, 2nd, and 3rd shifts.
Job Responsibilities: Maintain the safety and security of My Brothers House Inc. consumers in the home.
· Account for all clients at any given time (Direct Supervision at all times).
· Conduct daily inspections of the home and the consumer’s room for any safety hazards.
· Ensure all clients wear seat belts when transported in MBH Inc vehicles.
· Log any observation of aggressive or harmful behaviors to self or others.
· Ensure that all staff is present and with consumers at all times.
· Conduct and document monthly fire drills.
Job Description Details:
· Monitor the daily performances of all consumers per the unit program.
· Utilize the unit program whenever discipline or teaching measures are needed.
· Ensure that the unit program functions effectively.
· Seek out or create opportunities for the consumer’s development in the community.
· Report any injuries or illness to the Home Manager, BMT Supervisor, or BMT, and/or ensure that a physician sees the consumer(s).
· Seek out or create opportunities to interact with all consumers in a caring and nurturing manner.
· Be aware of each consumer’s emotional state and intervene using the “life-space” counseling technique when necessary.
· Organize, direct, and supervise the recreational and leisure time activities of MBH Inc.
· Maintain effective communication with other staff and referring agencies. Demonstrating acceptable leadership responsibility through effective and responsible decision-making.
· Provide consumers with interpersonal and life skills training through teaching, modeling, and problem-solving skills.
· Understand the individual History/IHP and Treatment Goal plans for each consumer to provide effective and accurate treatment.
· Complete all documents, which include service notes, incident reports, administrator and document medication as prescribed by a physician, and communication logbooks.

Must demonstrate an ability to continue learning through supervision, continuing education, and experience and work cooperatively using a team approach

Must demonstrate knowledge of parenting techniques and the ability to work collaboratively with biological and foster children to find solutions to problems, as well as crisis intervention skills

Ability to write in English with little difficulty

Ability to empathize and at the same time is an authority figure

Ability to complete documentation daily

Valid NC Driver's License and North Carolina Car Insurance

Nationwide Criminal Background Check, North Carolina Healthcare Personnel Registry must be completed

Education

High School Diploma or greater

Responsibilities and Duties

Work in conjunction with multidisciplinary team to provide foster care services

Attend required training as mandated by My B.R.O.T.H.E.R.S. House Inc. and NC Division of Social Services Regulatory and Licensing Services

Complete mandated reports and documentation in the specified time frames

Consult with parents, teachers, and other school personnel to determine causes of problems such as truancy, misbehaviors, and implement solutions

Participate in supervision weekly/monthly

Report incidents that jeopardize the health and safety of children

Maintain confidentiality

Schedule and attend all health and wellbeing appointments

Provide transportation to and from visitation

Follow by court orders
