This past Saturday, April 18th, our team attended the Renaissance West Community Initiative Annual Resource Fair—a great opportunity to connect with the community and share information about our services. 💙

Angie Rikard, Director of Partnerships and Outreach, and Shila Puls, Patient Care Coordinator, were on site talking with attendees, answering questions, and spreading awareness about how Charlotte Speech and Hearing Center provides hearing and speech-language services to those who need them most.

Events like these help us reach more neighbors across our community and continue our work of empowering communication, transforming lives. Thank you to Renaissance West Community Initiative for hosting such an impactful event!

🌱 What Growth Can Look Like When Barriers Are Removed 🌱

When Jessie first came to Charlotte Speech and Hearing Center looking for speech therapy for her son Brody, she didn’t know what his future might hold. Brody lives with severe childhood apraxia of speech and was once entirely nonverbal.

At CSHC, Brody was met with possibility—not limitations. With the support of a speech-language pathologist who never gave up and access to the tools he needed, Brody’s world began to change. Today, he has more than 95 functional words—a milestone that once felt unimaginable.

Even more meaningful to Jessie is how that progress happened: through therapy rooted in connection, dignity, and genuine care.

Brody’s story is one of many reminders of what access to speech-language services makes possible. This spring, during our Voices Bloom campaign, you can help more individuals experience this kind of growth.

🌷 Know someone who could benefit from speech-language services? Refer them to CSHC.
💛 Together, we can continue empowering communication and transforming lives.

At Charlotte Speech and Hearing Center, our team loves taking time to learn more about one another. 💙

Whether we’re learning about each other’s backgrounds or sharing a laugh, moments like these help us build stronger connections and cultivate meaningful teamwork. We come from different places, bring different perspectives, and work across a variety of roles, but collaboration is always at the center of what we do.

Creating space to listen, reflect, and engage together strengthens how we show up for one another and for the wonderful community we serve. This balance of collaboration and play is part of what makes our team special and what makes CSHC feel like home.

We were proud to support the Council on Aging in Union County as a sponsor of their annual Corks & Forks fundraiser last Saturday, April 18th! 🍷🍴

Our team members Liza Stahnke, Director of Speech-Language Services, and Angelique Walker, Speech-Language Pathologist, had a wonderful time bidding on auction items, connecting with fellow community supporters, and representing Charlotte Speech and Hearing Center at such a meaningful event.

Supporting organizations that serve and uplift our community aligns perfectly with our mission of empowering communication, transforming lives. Thank you to the Council on Aging in Union County for all you do—and for a fantastic evening in support of older adults in our region! 💙

👂 Ever wondered what makes a hearing aid work?

Hearing aids may be small, but they’re made up of powerful parts working together to help bring sound to life. From the microphone that picks up sound, to the amplifier that clarifies it, and the receiver that delivers it clearly to the ear, every piece plays an important role. Batteries or rechargeable power keep everything running, while custom ear molds help ensure comfort and the best fit.

At Charlotte Speech and Hearing Center, we take the time to help patients understand their hearing technology so they feel confident using and caring for their devices. When you know how your hearing aid works, it becomes easier to get the most out of every sound. 💙

Today, April 21, is National Kindergarten Day! 🎒✨

At Charlotte Speech and Hearing Center, we know strong communication skills are the foundation for kindergarten success—and for a lifetime of learning.

Through our speech therapy and language & literacy programs, including our APPLE a Day program (pictured), we support the development of key skills that help children enter kindergarten with confidence.

We’re proud to partner with families during these foundational years and help children build the skills they need to explore, learn, and share their ideas with the world. 💙

✨ Changing the Trajectory of a Life ✨

Before our Sound Beginnings program, Darius had limited speech-language skills and often relied on crying or physical behaviors to communicate his needs.

Through weekly classroom inclusion support and intensive speech-language therapy, he began to find his voice. His mother also participated in our Sound Beginnings parent training series, learning strategies to support communication at home.

Today, he uses words and full phrases to express himself, with a dramatic decline in frustration and outbursts. His confidence has grown—and his entire family has felt the impact of early intervention.

Sound Beginnings is a grant-funded early intervention program serving children birth to age 3 at partner childcare facilities. Without programs like this, many children might go years without services—falling further behind.

💙 This is the work you make possible. Thank you for helping us continue providing the gift of speech and hearing since 1967.

💙 Patient Spotlight: Reconnecting With the World Through Hearing 💙

When Doris was referred to Charlotte Speech and Hearing Center by her doctor, she did not yet realize how much hearing loss had quietly shaped her daily life. Over time, she began noticing small adjustments, such as lying on a certain side to hear the television or missing sounds behind her. Like many people, it took nearly a decade before she fully recognized how much she was missing.

Everything changed when Doris was fitted with hearing aids. Sounds she had not heard in years came rushing back. Birds chirping. Water running. Everyday details that once felt distant. While overwhelming at first, those sounds soon became familiar again, allowing her to reconnect more fully with the world around her.

Reflecting on her journey, Doris shared:
“When I could hear things again, birds chirping and water running, it was overwhelming in the best way. I got pieces of my world back. I always tell people, don’t be afraid to get your hearing checked.”

That reassurance, care, and renewed connection are at the heart of what we do. It is why patients like Doris continue to trust CSHC and proudly recommend our team to others seeking better hearing and a better quality of life. 💫
