At The Blanchard Institute, our “why” has always been bigger than treatment alone.

When Ward Blanchard founded The Blanchard Institute, his vision was to create a place where individuals could heal and families could heal alongside them. Because addiction and mental health challenges don’t only affect one person. They ripple through the people who love them most.

That’s why our programs go beyond traditional treatment. Through compassionate care, education, and family workshops, we help people rebuild trust, understanding, and hope together.

Recovery isn’t meant to happen in isolation. And at The Blanchard Institute, no one has to walk that path alone.

This Women’s History Month, we recognize the women who helped shape recovery and the countless women who continue that work today. 💜

Over the past years, women have played a powerful role in shaping the field of addiction recovery by helping to move the conversation around addiction toward compassion, science, and support for people who deserve a chance to heal.

Swipe to learn more about just a few of the women who helped change the way we understand addiction, treatment, and recovery.

When someone you love is struggling with addiction, the line between supporting and enabling can feel incredibly thin.

Most families aren’t trying to “do it wrong.” They’re trying to protect, prevent harm, and hold their family together — often while navigating fear, exhaustion, and uncertainty.

Support strengthens recovery, while enabling unintentionally protects the addiction. The difference often comes down to boundaries, consistency, and understanding how this disease impacts the entire family system.

The hopeful part? These skills can be learned.

At The Blanchard Institute, our Family System Workshop and ongoing family programs are designed to give families practical tools, shared language, and steady guidance — so you can move from reacting in crisis to responding with clarity and confidence.

Attachment styles play a powerful — and often invisible — role in how families experience addiction, mental health challenges, and recovery.

In early childhood, attachment styles develop based on how consistently and safely caregivers responded to emotional needs. These patterns often carry into adulthood and shape things like how well we regulate our emotions, handle conflict, maintain relationships, and how well we cope with stressful situations.

Addiction is often intertwined with attachment wounds. Substances can become a substitute for emotional soothing, safety, regulation, and connection. For many individuals, substances function as an artificial attachment figure — reliable, predictable, and immediately regulating.

Swipe to explore the four main attachment styles, and if you’re interested in learning more, register for our upcoming Family System Workshop on April 10th and 11th! - https://www.surveyhero.com/c/drwtddcq.

As we head into a busy week, let’s take a moment to get emotionally regulated.

Emotional regulation is the ability to recognize and exert control over our own emotions. It might require changing your perspective, deep breathing, physical movement, staying hydrated, or other healthy ways of coping.

When we experiencing high stress, lack of sleep, conflict with others, or heavy mood swings, we can become emotionally dysregulated. It’s important to check in with yourself every so often so you can switch from a state of reaction to a state of responding.

Take a moment to check in with yourself and let us know in the comments if you found this helpful.
