❄️ Play With a Purpose: Winter Edition – Snow Drift Dig ❄️

Looking for a simple, low-prep activity that builds real communication skills? Try a Snow Drift Dig at home!

Fill a bin with insta-snow, rice, beans, or packing peanuts and hide mini winter toys inside. As your child digs, you can model:
✨ Action words (“dig, scoop, pour”)
✨ Descriptions (“The fox is cold!”)
✨ Sequencing (“First I dug, then I found…”)
✨ Pretend play scenarios (“The snowplow is coming!”)

This sensory-rich activity supports speech sounds, vocabulary, verbs, and narrative skills — all through play.

❄️ Try this activity this week and tag us in your Snow Drift Dig so we can cheer you on!

Echolalia isn’t “just repeating.”
It’s communication. 💬✨

Many children — especially gestalt language processors — use scripts, songs, and familiar phrases to express BIG thoughts and feelings.

“Up, up, and away!” might mean Let’s go!
“Chase is on the case!” might mean I’ll help!
Singing a favorite song might mean I’m tired or I need comfort.

When we shift from correcting to curious, we begin to see the meaning behind the words. 🤍

Join us for our FREE virtual event on February 25th (5–6pm) to learn:
✨ What echolalia really is
✨ How AAC supports communication & autonomy
✨ Practical strategies you can use at home
✨ How to support language through a neuro-affirming lens

Perfect for parents of autistic, minimally speaking, or gestalt language processing children.

❄️ PLAY WITH A PURPOSE – Winter Edition ❄️

Snow days (or chilly afternoons) = the perfect excuse to sneak in speech practice through play.

Try Snowball Toss Words at home: grab paper balls, socks, or pom-poms and turn articulation practice into a movement game your child will actually want to do.

Each toss =
🗣 Say a target sound
🔁 Repeat it a few times
💬 Use it in a sentence
🤸 Add movement (clap, jump, stomp!)
🧠 Sort by sound
✨ Mix in describing words

Simple. Active. Meaningful. And no worksheets required.

Tell us in the comments:
👉 What sound are you working on right now? (/s/, /k/, /r/, something else?)
OR
👉 Drop a ❄️ if you want more seasonal at-home therapy ideas!

✨ Advocacy doesn’t mean being “difficult.” It means showing up for your child. ✨

You don’t have to be “that parent” to ask questions, seek clarity, or collaborate with your child’s team. Advocacy is about partnership, not conflict — and parents are the true experts on their children. 💛

Join us for our February Parent Support Group as we dive into neurodiversity-affirming IEP & 504 support, practical advocacy strategies, and how to collaborate confidently with school teams — alongside our friends at Bright Beginnings Advocacy & Consulting.
