🚨 Who’s Eligible for the New COVID Vaccine? 🚨
We’ve been getting lots of questions, so here’s a quick breakdown:
✅ Adults 65+ → Strongly recommended. One dose, or two doses (2–6 months apart) for extra protection. This group has the highest risk for severe outcomes.
✅ Ages 5–64 with underlying conditions → Eligible if you have a risk factor like asthma, diabetes, cancer, obesity, heart disease, or even certain mood disorders.
✅ Immunocompromised (6 months+) → Eligible for an initial series plus extra doses (2–3 per year, spaced 2+ months apart). Includes organ transplant patients and those on certain treatments.
⚠️ Children 6 months–17 years (healthy) → Limited. It’s up to you (and your provider) under “shared clinical decision-making.” Not routine, though the AAP supports it for kids due to hospitalization risks.
❌ Pregnant people → Not currently included under federal rules, though some states (like Washington) still recommend it. This is controversial.
❌ Healthy adults under 65 → Not approved yet unless you have risk factors. FDA requires new trial data first. Off-label use is technically possible but rare in pharmacies due to liability.
💡 Bottom line: If you’re high-risk, 65+, or immunocompromised, this new vaccine is strongly recommended. Others may need to discuss with their provider.
