Givens Aldersgate is a non-profit Life Plan Community of vast beauty and lifestyle options. Located in Charlotte, NC, our park-like campus is one of the largest green space in Mecklenburg County. Each day, you’ll enjoy hundreds of acres of walkable nature: misty woodland hikes, lakeside strolls and garden excursions. In the middle of all this natural abundance sits a community with multiple levels of living options including dining venues, indoor and outdoor recreation, fitness opportunities and life long learning. On Sunday, we were honored to welcome the Johnson C. Smith University Choir for a truly uplifting day of worship, fellowship, and sacred music.

Under the direction of Dr. Angelica Brooks, the choir shared inspiring performances during services at Asbury Rehabilitation Services and Vespers in Independent Living.

A particularly touching moment came as students connected with Dr. Benjamin Dias, a former JCSU professor, creating a meaningful bridge between generations and celebrating a shared legacy.

We are deeply grateful for this special time of community, music, and fellowship that continues to strengthen the bond between Givens Aldersgate and Johnson C. Smith University.

The Givens Aldersgate Woodworkers opened their doors for two special open houses, giving residents a behind‑the‑scenes look at what the Shop is all about. Nine talented Woodworkers hosted, and 32 residents stopped by — with plenty of fun and great conversation along the way.

Today's highlight: the raffle of two beautiful birdhouses handcrafted by one of our residents.

Our History of Black Hair and Culture event was a meaningful way to wrap up Black History Month. The conversation highlighted the evolution and diversity of Black hair while addressing common misconceptions — from hair growth to extensions and the beautiful range of natural textures and colors.
