Being a therapist doesnโ€™t mean life is stress-free. These are a few of our favorite coping skills we may use in between sessions to help us feel more regulated. ๐Ÿ˜Œ

Coping skills arenโ€™t about avoiding feelingsโ€” they help us move through them. ๐Ÿ™Œ๐Ÿผ

Did you know it is World Music Therapy Week? ๐ŸŽถ

Meet Louisa! She is our board-certified music therapist that specializes in utilizing music as part of her clinical practice! ๐Ÿ˜Š

Music therapy is an evidence-based therapeutic intervention that utilizes music to improve mental health by reducing stress, enhancing emotional expression, and fostering social connections.

๐ŸŽต Benefits of Music Therapy

1. Emotional Regulation: Music therapy helps individuals manage their emotions by providing a safe space for emotional expression. Engaging with music can facilitate emotional release, promote self-reflection, and enhance mood.

2. Stress Reduction: Research indicates that music can lower cortisol levels, the bodyโ€™s stress hormone, leading to reduced anxiety and improved relaxation. Listening to calming music can slow heart rates and lower blood pressure, making it a useful tool in stress management.

3. Trauma Healing: Music therapy has shown promise in addressing trauma-related issues. It provides a supportive environment for individuals to process traumatic experiences, which can be particularly beneficial for those who have faced systemic injustices or personal trauma.

4. Cognitive Benefits: Engaging with music can enhance cognitive functions such as memory and attention.

5. Social Connection: Group music-making activities, such as drumming circles or choir singing, foster a sense of community and belonging. This social aspect can be particularly beneficial for individuals dealing with isolation or loneliness.

Curious to see if music therapy is a good fit for you? Give us a call to schedule a free 15 minute consultation with Louisa. ๐Ÿ“ž
