For four years after being diagnosed with IBD, I struggled with fatigue, abdominal pain, food sensitivities, and more.
I was gaining weight as a result of not being able to exercise. I was frustrated that I couldn’t relieve stress through running or tennis like I used to. I did NOT feel at home in my body.
After years of trying various eating plans, alternative therapies, and adjusting my exercise routine, I saw improvement but still couldn’t kick the last of my symptoms.
Then, I discovered one last strategy that I hadn’t yet tried. I embarked on a more personalized, targeted gut-healing protocol, and it made all the difference!
Now I have lost the last few stubborn pounds, I do my favorite workouts 4 days a week (without the lengthy recovery time), and am able to tolerate a wider range of foods!
I feel like myself again. I’m more comfortable in my body, have a healthier social life, and enjoy my favorite activities without fear of flares.
💡 How did I do it? Here are 3 lessons I wish someone had shared with me when I was struggling:
1. Don’t underestimate the importance of prebiotics. They are vital to supporting the probiotics you are likely already taking.
2. Find the right gut test. There are particular markers that indicate the health of your gut, as well as indicate other issues that might be contributing to your IBD. It’s important to see the right data so you can create a strategy that will address the actual issues.
3. Don’t give up! If you don’t feel “right,” you don’t have to live in this state. You know your body. You know what feels good. If there’s more work to be done, keep going.
