Inside Out Collaborative

Inside Out Collaborative Inside Out Collaborative is the counseling practice of Eden Hyder, MA, LPC, LCMHC, EMDR Trained and Michael Hyder, MA, LPC-S, LCMHC, EMDR Certified

At Inside Out Collaborative, we offer therapeutic support and counseling services to residents of Texas and North Carolina. Our belief is that everyone longs to live a meaningful and happy life, but at some point you get stuck or lose your way. Part of the work of getting unstuck is understanding your internal world and its influence on your actions, relationships, work place or school. When there is a dissonance between your inner (thoughts and feelings) and outer (actions) worlds, you can feel out of control and disconnected. At Inside Out Collaborative I want to work with you to help you articulate and understand your internal world in order to empower you to manifest the life you want to live.

NEW EPISODE: Michael and Eden add on to the last episode about relationships as they enter a conversation on parenting. They discuss their differences, struggles and strengths as anxious and avoidant attached. Through relatable stories, Eden and Michael share about times of feeling disconnected from their kiddos (rupture), the struggle and importance of reconnecting (repair) and, in between, building a foundation of positive interactions.

Polyvagal Theory helps us understand that we are wired as animals for survival and relationships. Getting a deeper understanding of why our reactions look and feel a certain way can support communication of needs and self-care.

Hear Michael talking about how he uses Polyvagal Theory to understand his reactions to stressors and conflict in relationship. Tune in to Episode 8 of Inside Out Podcast.

In episode 8 of Inside Out Podcast, Michael talks about Internal Family Systems (IFS). I have also talked about our child self, adult self. IFS is a way that we can organize and better understand our inner worlds. We grow up in a family “system” with equations of how to get needs met, unspoken or spoken rules to follow, roles to play and our attachment (way of relating) is formed. Once we are adults, those rules, beliefs, equations, and attachment is now internalized. This means, what was concrete people and outside of you, is now abstract and inside of you. IFS helps us acknowledge the many different parts of us, views each part as valid and worthy and motivated by certain fears or insecurities. The Self (adult self) is then the leader of all these parts of us, hearing each out, and determining the best move forward.

There are 3 categories of parts:
MANAGERS keep us functioning daily and keep emotions from impacting that functioning.
FIREFIGHTERS come in when feelings are triggered and threaten overwhelming us (cutting, addictions, eating disorders).
EXILES bear the individual’s pain and shame, often a reflection of early childhood experiences.
