As the government shutdown continues, the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) remains a vital resource for millions of families. While some services may experience temporary changes, here’s what you need to know about current SNAP operations and where to find additional support if needed.
SNAP Benefits are ending November 1, due to the government shutdown. Charlotte Mecklenburg Food Policy Council is partnering with Mecklenburg County Government to provide financial assistance to SNAP users at farmers' markets in November.
At five farmers' markets, provide your EBT card, initials and zip code. You'll receive $50 in wooden tokens to use at that market, without spending anything from your EBT card. If you don't use them all that day you can use them a different day at the same market.
Participating markets are:
🥦 Charlotte Regional Farmers Market - Saturdays except 11/29 8am-1230pm
🍎 Davidson Farmers Market - Saturdays 9am-12pm
🍇 Matthews Community Farmers Market - Saturdays 8am-12pm
🥕 South End Farmers Market - Saturdays 8am-1pm
🥔 Uptown Farmers Market - Saturdays 8am-1230pm

UPDATE: I learned today (Nov. 1) that the county funding has already been exhausted. The organizers are working toward finding private funding so that the program can be extended.
