“Should you really be eating that?”

“Wow, someone’s hungry!”

“Do you really need seconds?”

“That outfit isn’t very flattering…”

“Stand up straight and suck in for the photo.”

Ah yes, the soundtrack of being plus-size during the holidays.

Food-centered gatherings always seem to open the door for commentary that no one asked for. And as someone who’s been plus size my whole life, I’ve truly heard it all. If I’m looking “good” or “bad,” somehow the holidays are when opinions roll in faster than ever.

And right after the festivities? Cue the New Year’s resolution talk.

“So… is this the year you finally lose the weight?”
—Nope! Never considered it! I absolutely LIVE for being harassed about my body. Thanks tho. 🙃

But here’s the truth:

No matter your size, you deserve to enjoy your Thanksgiving.

You deserve to eat the meal.

You deserve to wear whatever outfit feels comfortable — whether or not someone else thinks it’s “flattering.”

You deserve the joy, the memories, the photos, the laughter… and yes, THE PIE.

This Thanksgiving, it’s more than okay to shut down unsolicited commentary disguised as “concern.”

Your body is your business. Period.
