Our 4th trip riding Lake Michigan shoreline again was incredible! So fortunate hitting the best weather day of the week!

It's been a very busy last 2 weeks....horse appointments, dog appointments ,local and distant, aaand my 3 at home. All 3 were lame at the same time for different reasons. Obi thankfully shed another " shallow " abscess on LH with soaking and some pain meds.
Ziggy was more of a mystery; it turned out to be thrush plus an abscess in LF weeks after I had pulled his front shoes. They all got trimmed today and the 2 geldings are on the mends TG.
Ellie was diagnosed with DSLD last week which is the most devastating news. For non- horse people- basically her ligaments are breaking down on all 4; the
" ankle" joints are sinking lower.
It is very painful and there is no coming back from that. Her cushings, age, possibly genetics, conformation all play a role.
After my initial despair I am trying to see the silver lining: at least I can take care of her here at home and have the resources to make her as comfortable as possible until there is no quality of life for her. Everybody including myself was so happy to have her back and I have a newfound love for her. She's such a good horse- so tough. Today she visibly appreciated her treatments.

When Robert Redford took on The Horse Whisperer in 1998—as director, producer, and star—he thought it was simply going to be another demanding project, a story about healing, loss, and the mysterious bond between humans and animals. What he didn’t expect was how deeply it would alter his relationship with horses, forever changing the way he saw them.

Before the film, Redford was no stranger to horses. He’d ridden them in countless Westerns, from Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid to Jeremiah Johnson. To him, they were co-stars—majestic, powerful, but ultimately part of the job. However, when he began working closely with Buck Brannaman, the real-life horse trainer who inspired the film’s title character, Redford discovered an entirely new dimension of these animals.

Redford later admitted, “I realized that horses don’t lie. They’ll show you who they are if you give them the respect they deserve. That honesty struck me in a way I’d never experienced.”

During filming, Redford often stayed long after shooting wrapped, quietly observing the horses in the Montana dusk. Crew members recalled seeing him lean on the fence, watching them breathe and shift in the fading light as though he was absorbing something beyond words. It wasn’t about performance anymore—it was about connection.

After The Horse Whisperer, Redford didn’t just love horses—he revered them. They became symbols of truth, freedom, and spirit, reflections of the very things he’d always sought in storytelling and in life. For him, the film wasn’t just art; it was initiation into a lifelong respect for one of nature’s most soulful creatures.

What a fantastic event at
!
There is so much work involved for all; especially our MCs , the family of Cathy Lawless , the clinicians and us presenters- but so worth it!
Such a memorable weekend!
I was able to ride quite a bit and do lots of work on many equines.
It was so nice to catch up with many friends and clients and make new ones!
Hot and humid, but everyone had a great time .

Today we (hopefully)may have found out why- usually unstoppable- Willow has been holding back at Dock- diving.
Process of elimination....
Fingers crossed for a full recovery with some therapies.
