Some people do quiet work that holds a community together. Jessie Ogienko is one of them.

Fourteen months ago, Jessie and I were strangers. We became friends after both joining a female entrepreneurial group. I was a new business owner; she was established as the founder and owner of Caladrius Therapy.

Yes, she’s a 36-year-old business owner. Her success at a young age is impressive. But let me say plainly: The way her practice provides mental health care is what’s most impressive. She serves those with insurance while also taking all Medicaid patients. Community is her priority. She puts herself into her business, and is proud her business shows up for the community.

In Bet On Yourself language, this means Jessie bets on people every single day, and takes the people she and her clinicians treat seriously.

Again, she does this quietly. Her hard work is generally without noise.

I’m super thrilled to announce that Caladrius Therapy is a new member of our Bet On Yourself Family. We have 27 remarkable Family members as part of Bet On Yourself Summit 3.0—all real people, companies and groups making impact in their spaces.

Jessie and I sat down to talk about the work she does. (Sidebar: Asking your friends to explain details of what they really do in their careers is super interesting.) Jessie practices “evidence-based, trauma-informed care.” She went through—and continually goes through—lots of training to be certified.

Not only is Jessie trained to give evidence-based, trauma-informed care to her patients, she is also certified to teach other therapists this type of care AND trained to teach non-therapists in careers that need the knowledge. For example… say you’re in customer service. You interact with all types of people. Jessie can train your team to handle customers who might seem difficult to you, but who really just need added attention because they carry trauma inside.

You can contact Jessie on Facebook or better yet, reach out to her company through its page. I’ll put her company website in comments below.

I’m grateful to know Jessie. She’s a thoughtful, grounded human doing work that matters. What an honor to have her attached to all we have ahead in April for Summit 3.0.

Keep betting and building,
-Molly

When a child is overwhelmed, what they’re experiencing isn’t misbehaviour. It’s a nervous system under strain.

In moments of distress, many children aren’t able to step away, calm down, or think things through on their own. Their brain is in protection mode, not learning mode. Asking for distance, silence, or independence in those moments can sometimes add to the fear rather than reduce it.

What helps most is an anchor.
A calm adult presence.
A steady voice.
Predictable reassurance.

Co-regulation is not about fixing feelings or making them disappear. It’s about lending your regulated nervous system until theirs can settle again. When we stay close, grounded, and emotionally available, we send a powerful message: you are safe, even when things feel hard inside.

Over time, these moments build trust. They teach children that big emotions don’t push people away, and that support is available without judgement. From that place of safety, skills like self-regulation, problem-solving, and reflection can grow.

Connection doesn’t mean permissiveness. It means understanding that regulation comes before reasoning, and relationship comes before repair.

Be the anchor.
The calm in the storm.
The steady presence they can lean on while they learn how to steady themselves.

You don’t need to feel “ready” for a new year.

Healing begins exactly where you are, not where you think you should be.
