Weekends are a great time to recharge your battery! Just as we charge our phones every night, it's equally important for us to recharge when our battery gets low. What are a few ways you can take care of yourself this weekend? 🎃❤

Boundaries have been a hot topic in our therapy sessions lately. Learning to set them can decrease anxiety, stress, improve self esteem & relationships. Having boundaries allows us to give others the benefit of the doubt, express disappointment/ decrease resentment, stop people pleasing, stand up for oneself, and get our own needs met. Many clients find this difficult or painful at first but with practice they realize it’s a lot easier to set them upfront than deal with the aftermath later.

3 tips to get started:

1. Clarify what’s important to you. Identify areas where you have resentment or are worn out from trying to make everyone happy or comfortable.
2. Practice clearly stating your preference or need. Practice saying NO. Practice consistency so that others learn where you stand.
3. Breathe, practice compassion and make space for any painful feelings or thoughts that come up when you practice setting and keeping the boundary.

This is so important! ⬇⬇

May is mental health awareness month. How can you stop the stigma around going to therapy? Would we shame or question someone for going to a check-up at the doctor's office or seeking help for a physical injury? Mental health IS health! ❤

One tip on how you can help to stop the stigma:

✨Openly discuss and normalize talking about human emotions in your conversations with family members, your kids, your friends, etc. Notice and name those feelings and thoughts just like you would notice a physical ailment or injury. ✨

Make sure you're getting the support you need during these uncertain times. We'll get through this together!

"We are all carrying backpacks that we continually load up. We keep stuffing them full until one day, they can’t zip and the stuff starts spilling out all over the place."

How heavy is your emotional backpack? When we carry around other peoples' belongings or our own belongings without checking out what's inside, our backpacks become heavy, weighted down, and difficult to carry. Carrying this heavy load can hinder us from engaging in activities we enjoy or moving in the direction of our goals and values.
Check the contents of your backpack. What is weighing you down? If you need help unloading your backpack, start small and simple--what is one thing you can address? You also might consider seeking the help of a mental health professional for a safe space to gain support in unloading. If you're interested in individual therapy, reach out and send us a message. We'll get you connected!

As we work to help clients find their pathway to better health, Acceptance & Commitment strategies are often used in therapy sessions. If you are experiencing difficult emotions, try making space for them and then doing an activity or behavior that is consistent with your values. We love providing ACT in our practice.

We love meeting other Charlotte therapists! Making connections in the mental health community is what it's all about! Supporting each other and making time for our personal growth is so important.

It's important for us as therapists to take good care of ourselves and model this for our clients. Connecting with other therapists helps us to step out of our offices and gain support and guidance when we need it. Over time, therapists can begin to feel isolated and disconnected at work. Our goal is to help therapists make meaningful connections, relax, and have fun! 💙

Love this Gottman post about the emotional bank account! We help individuals & couples learn how to do this in therapy.

Make deposits to your relationship's Emotional Bank Account with small, everyday gestures of appreciation, affection, and kindness.

Even responding to your partner saying, “That dog is cute,” with, “Yes, it is!” counts as a "deposit" and strengthens your emotional connection. Read more: http://bit.ly/2z7uiZB
