Why today?
The roots of Veteran's Day trace back to the end of World War I, also known as "The Great War." On the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month in 1918, an armistice (temporary cessation of hostilities) between the Allied nations and Germany took effect.

FIND JOY IN THE JOURNEY!

“National Chaos Never Dies Day is celebrated annually on November 9th to acknowledge and embrace the natural chaos of life. The day encourages letting go of perfectionism, finding humor and resilience in unpredictable situations, and enjoying the ride of life, even with its imperfections.”

Happy National Cat Day! 🐱

Not only is Lacresha Jackson our resident cat enthusiast, but she’s also an experienced and compassionate medical assistant. Lacresha brings kindness, wisdom, and genuine care to every patient she meets — and we’re so grateful to have her on our team!

Last week, we celebrated Medical Assistant Recognition Week by giving Lacresha a well-deserved paid day off to enjoy the zoo with her daughter.

Thunder Orthopedics is so thankful for Soaring Surgery Center! Dr. Swanson says: “My stress level is so much lower when I am operating at Soaring because I know the personal attention to detail that Mitra Javadi and Felicia Fravel put into everything they do. I stand on the shoulders of giants when I stand with them at Soaring.”

This week and every week, we thank Mitra Javadi and Felicia Fravel for providing their expertise to Soaring! Today, we pull back the curtain a little to tell you how important they are…

Our Central Sterile Processing (CSP) — also known as Central Sterile Services Department (CSSD) — is the backbone of the safe and efficient healthcare that Soaring delivers.

Mitra Javadi and Felicia Fravel are the dynamic duo in our CSP who bring significant benefits across patient care, infection prevention, cost management, and OR operations.

Because of the GOLD standard in CSP that Mitra and Felicia have set, we have:

1. Improved Patient Safety
• Reduced infection risk: Proper sterilization and disinfection of instruments prevent surgical site infections (SSIs) and other healthcare-associated infections (HAIs).
• Consistent sterilization quality: Standardized processes and validated equipment ensure every instrument meets sterility assurance levels.
• Traceability: Accurate tracking of instrument sets allows rapid response to recalls or contamination incidents.

2. Greater Surgical Efficiency
• Ready-to-use instruments: Timely, properly assembled sets minimize surgery delays.
• Reduced case cancellations: Fewer missing, damaged, or unsterile instruments mean smoother operating room (OR) workflows.
• Standardization: Organized tray setups and labeling help surgeons and nurses work more efficiently.

3. Cost Savings and Resource Optimization
• Extended instrument lifespan: Proper cleaning and handling reduce corrosion, wear, and premature replacement costs.
• Fewer re-sterilizations: Efficient workflow and quality assurance minimize wasted time and energy on repeats.
• Reduced infection treatment costs: Preventing infections saves significant costs in patient care and readmissions.

4. Enhanced Staff Safety and Morale
• Reduced exposure: Proper decontamination protects CSP and clinical staff from bloodborne pathogens.
• Professional recognition: Skilled sterile processing techs are valued as essential members of the surgical team.
• Lower stress levels: Reliable equipment and organized workflow reduce pressure on both CSP and OR teams.

And Megan Swanson and her sisters and daughters also ran it… Dr. Swanson said: “I ran the race today for my friend and cheerleader Pat Robertson… a Charlottesville legend who went to heaven earlier this year after having ovarian cancer. Ovarian cancer is a female cancer that we in medicine have got to get better at catching early.”
